AWFULLY SUDDEN DEATH.

A MAN EXPIRES AT THE TEA TABLE. The landlord and boarders at tho Victoria Hotel, Victom-atreot, experienced a great shock yesterday evoning owing to the awfully sudden death of Mr. Michael Kiolly, who dropped dead at tho tea table at aboub fivo minutos to six o'clock. Mr. Kiolly, whoso age is said to bo about fifty-four, was a contractor, carrying on businoss at Gisborno, and lie arrived in Auckland on Tuesday lasb to spend the holidays, and since then he has boarded ab tho Victoria Hotel. Beyond complaining a few days ago of a slight pain in his back, he informed somo of his friends yesterday that ho never was in better health in his life. When ho sat down to tea last night with the othor boarders ho appeared to be in good spirits, but just when ho was about half through his meal Mr. Clarke, tho landlord, and some of tho boardors beard Mr. Kielly cough once, and observed that his head dropped forward on his client, and his knife and fork dropped out of his hands. Mr. Clarke had him at once laid on a ciuch, and telephoned for Dr. Lindsay, but just as they laid him down they heard a gurgling sound in his throat, and ho throw up a quantity of blood, expiring immediately, and when Dr. Lindsay and Sorgoant Mc.Mahon arrived the doctor had only to pronounce life extinct. Of course a post mortem will bo held, but it is understood that tho immediate causo of doath was rupturo of a bloodvessel in or near the heart.

Tho doceasod was a widower, his wife having died 14 yoara ago, and he loavos no family, but ho has a brothor in Gisbome, and a sister in Chriatchurch. Ho was a very temperate man, and one of his friends who was with him at) tho timo of his doabh, informs us that he has not drank any intoxicating liquor for upwards of five years. Tho body was removed to tho Morgue by tho police, to awaib an inquest, whioh will no doubt be held to-day.
