The Prohibition Loaguo has written to tho Minister of Justico expressing indignation at the utterances of Mr. Hawkins, S.M., at Clutha, and asking the Minister to remove him. In reply tho Minister declines to romovo him, and states that in his opinion it would he highly undesirable for the Government to begin punishing magistrates for exercising freedom of speech on the Bench. A deputation of Prohibitionists will wait on the Minister to-morrow to discuss the position in Clutha,
