HIGH PRICES FOR POSTAGE STAMPS.
Whatevkr may bo going on in othor spheres of investment, that occupied by foreign stamp collectors appears to be more thriving than ever. If the market continues to improve, the Telegraph thinks that trustees may be expoctod shortly to ask Parliament to includo thoso precious scraps of paper among authorised securities. Messrs. Ventora, Bull, and Cooper held recently a Bale at which the highest prico over given for a singlo stamp at auction in this country was obtained. Tho record was broken by the purchasor of a. Mauritius postpaid 2d blue, unused, who gave no loss than £140 for tho rui'o specimen. Among tho othor lots disposed of worn the following :— Mauritius, largo filled, 2d blue, a pair, £50; Canada, 12d, black, damaged, £27; Nova Scotia, Is, man re, £21; New Brunswick, Is, violot, £18 10s ; St. Vincont, 5.5, roaorod, unused, £16; and Tobago, watermark "C. and C.A.," 6d, ochro, unused, £13 13s ; St. Vincout, provisional, 4d on Is, vermilion, £11 lis;Mauritius, post-paid, Id, vermilion, £11; and Newfoundland, GJd, carmiuo, un« usod, £10.
