Amu Mr. Want's speech in the Council, Mr. Crick replied in the Legislative Assembly. With reference to tho statomen. 1 , that Meaghor had offerod to turn Queen's evidence, ho said immediately before tho jury's vordicb was announced he visited Meagher in Court, and in tho presence of another member of the House, and a score of othor pursons, bo asked if Mr. Want's statemont waß true. Moagher replied it was absolutely an unmitigated lio, and that Mr. Crick could challenge Mr. Want's statement. Meagher also said if Mr. Want dared to produce a letter on tho matter purporting to be cigned by him, he would issue a warrant against Mr. Want for forgery. Mr. Crick added that on the strength of Meagher's statement ho now branded Mr. Want as an unmitigated liar. Ho pleaded no privilege, and dared Mr Want to bring an action against him. lb was a fair thing that Mr. Wanb and he should say thoy would plead no privilege and go to tho jury. Let Mr. Wanb issue a wri*; against him, and ho would issue one against Mr. Want. He meant to stop Mr. Want's proposed trip to Japan. What he had said aboub certain women and their relations with Mr. Wanb was absolutely true. Later. Mr. Crick has issued a writ againsb Mr. Want, Attorney-General, claiming £5000 damages. Tho ground of action is alleged to be Mr. Want's speech in the Council. Mr. Crick says he wants to give him a show of taking a stand in the Supreme Court. Meagher in a letter to the press characterises Mr. Want's statement thab he offerod to turn Queen's evidence as an abominable fabrication, and challenged him to publicly , corroborate it.
