Although the attitude adopted by the ' United States is wildly bellicose, a pro- , nounced feeling of war is avoided. ' Ex-Mayor Hewitt, of New York, con- , deuitis the President's message. He advises that the result of the communication be reported to Venezuela and Great Britain, and if the latter declines to accept it, the United States should then press for arbitration. The London Exchange wired to the New York Exchange a sarcastic message, that in the event of war special steps should be taken to prevent excursion steamers hampering the movements of the British warships. Washington, Decembor 19. The Senate has adjourned coming to a deoision on the Venezuela question till to-morrow.
