On Monday last a native known as " Old Mekoruki" died at Awahuri. The Advocate says no one know his exact age, but his claim that he was more than one hundred was never disputed, for nil the oldor men of the tribe ngreod in saying that he was an aged men when as boys they first remembered him. He alone among them hud boon reared and had lived in early manhood according to tho ancient manners and customs of his race, had fought the battles of his tribe, and the younger moil delighted to listen to his stirring stories of tho past. He took part in several of tho tribal wars which wore fought previous to the first outbreak of hostilities betwoen tho Maoris and tho English in tho Waikato. The four-page coloured supplement issued with tho Christmas Number of the Auckland Weekly News is in great favour. In order to meet the requirements of the public during the Christmas season, the premises of the D.S.C, will be closed Thursday afternoon, remaining open on Saturday evening until ten o'clock.—Direct Supply Company, Limited,—[AdYt.]
