Seventy-five members ot the Co-operatirrjf Village Settlements, which hare been broken up, have returnod to Brisbane. GOVERNOR BUXTON AND THE JOCKEY CLUB. Adelaide, December 18. Governor Buxton has now consented to act as Patron of the Jockey Club, and will be present officially at the New Year Meeting. CHAFFEY'S COMPANY. Melbourne, December 16. Mr. Justice Hodd has made an ordor for the voluntary winding up of Chaffey's Company, but the liquidators are not to proceed with tho sale of the assets till a further order has been made. EPIDEMIC AMONG SHEEP. Sydney, December 18. A large number of sheep are dying in tin Cooraa district from tetanus. A peculiar teaturo of the epidemic is that lambs suckled by diseased ewos are not affected. PROPOSED CHARTERED COMPANY. Melbourne, December 18. The Australian Natives Association has* asked the Premier to communicate with the premiers of the other colonies with a view to concerted action, protesting against tho proposed chartered company acquiring the northern territory.
ANTARCTIC EXPLORATION. Sydney, December 18. The Premier lias received a cable from Borchgrovincks, who is now in London, stating that if £15,000 is guaranteed he will undertake- an Australian expedition to tho Antarctic. Mr. Reid says so far as New ' South Wales is concorned it is very unlikely the money will bo available for the purpose.
THE DEAN CASE. Sydney, December 18, Counsel have finished their addresses in the conspiracy case, and the Judge has begun his summing up. Crick attended the Assembly to-night and asked permission to make a statement in reference to his trial. lb was understood ho intended to make a strong attack on the Attorney-General. The Premier deprecated airing the matter while the other cases were still nub judice. Failing to obtain a special day to make a statement Crick announced he would more in the House to-morrow as a question of privilege. THE DEATH OF A SEAMAN. Sydney, December 18. McLelland, second officer of the ship Canada, accused of causing the death of one of the crew by violent treatment, was found guilty of griovous bodily harm, and sentenced to six months. Munro, the captain, who was included in the prosecution, was, dischargod, the jury finding there was no case against him. AN APPEAL TO THE PRIVY COUNCIL. Melbourne, December 18, The Court granted Mr. Speight leave to appeal to the Privy Ceuncil, but ordered him to deposit a earn of £3000 for costs o£ appeal.
