The Union Company's steamer Ohan, Captain F. Black, arrived from Fiji yesterday afternoon, with a cargo of raw sugar. Mr. ( G. A. Lobb reports that the steamer loaded sugar through the Group, and left Suva at 3 p.m. on the 13th ; sighted the Great Barrier 7.25 a.m. yesterday, berthing at the Queenstreet wharf at 3 p.m. Experienced light northerly winds and fine weather up to 4 a.m., yesterday, when it came on thick weather, lasting until 7.30 a.m., during which time the engines were put dead slow, afterwards clearing and remaining line until arrival. The Ohau will go up to Chelsea tomorrow, to discharge. Last night, the Northern Company's steamer lona arrived from the Great Barrier, and leaves, to-night, for Kuaotunu and Mercury Bay. The Northern Company's steamer Douglas arrived from Whangarei with a cargo of coal, and leaves for the same place again this evening. Last evening, the Union Company's steamer Taviuni left for Tonga, .Samoa, Fiji, and Sydney, with the usual miscellaneous cargo. The Northern Company's steamer Wellington left for Whangarei last night. At noon to-day the Union Company's steamer Flora leaves for East Coast and Southern ports. The Northern Company's steamer Chelmslord leaves this afternoon lor Tairua, Whaugamata, and Whakatane. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Te Koa is expected to arrive from Wellington this morning, and will berth at the Railway Wharf to take in frozen meat, wool, etc., for London. The Union Company's steamer Upolu was to leave Suva for this port on Saturday night, and should arrive to-day. She leaves for Wellington on Friday. Yesterday the haiquentine Hands Isle was entered outwardsat the Customs for Sydney, via the East Coast. She will load timber at either Mercury Bay or Whangarei, and will sail to-morrow.
Mr. M. Niccol has received advices from Captain H. Douglas, stating that the schooner Clansman is to load oats at Dunedin for this part. The American barque Alice should put in an appearance from Wellington at any moment. On discharge of her consignments from New York the barque will load with kauri gum and flax for haw York, and will probably sail about the end of this month. Yesterday the Northern Company's steamer Rotomahana was floated out of dock, after cleaning and painting, and resumed her running to the Thames. The schooner A wanui will sail for the East Coast and Gishorne about Saturday next. Yesterday the Shaw, Savill, and AlbionCompany's ship Euterpe sailed from Napier, for London with a full cargo of wool, etc. The American barque 11. Webster, from this port, arrived at Newcastle yesterday, and on discharging loads again for Valparaiso. Yesterday the barque Acacia arrived at Port Chalmers from Southport, Tasmania, with a cargo of wood, on discharge of which she comes on to the Thames to load white pine timber at Baguall's Mill for Melbourne. The steamer Stella has loft for the coast for a raft of logs, and is expeoted back to-day. She leaves on Friday for Tako Bay, for another raft. Yesterday the Union Company's stoamnr Dingadee left Wellington for this port, in place of the Australia. Captain John Gibb and the officers of the Australia have been transferred to the Dingadee. The scow Eclipse is up on the Kauri Timber Company's slip for overhaul. On the Bth inst. the French war cruiser Scorff arrived at Suva from Levuka, and left for Noumea on the 12th.
The Italian warship Christoforo Colombo left Suva for Samoa on the 12th inst.
The Union Co. steamer Manapouri leaves Dunedin for the Bluff, Hobart, and Melbourne on Monday next. The French steamer Armand-Behic ran from Qucenscliff to Sydney Heads—s22J nautical miles—at close on 16 miles an hour on her last trip. She passed Queenscliff
at a. quarter to G a.m. on Tuesday, and entered Sydney Heads at six minutes to 3 in. on Wednesday. The. 87 miles from Jcrvis Buy to Sydney Heads wero done in 5 hours 6 minutes, or close on 17 miles an hour, During the voyage of the steamer McGregor from Albany to Esnerance Bay a sensational incident occurred (says a cablet from Perth). The engines were suddenly stopped by tho heavy sea, and the vessel was bronched-to. Tne boats were got ready, and all bauds were called on deak. The latter order was only intended for the crew, but the passengers took it for themselves, and a panic ensued. Men and women rushed on deck, tho latter screaming wildly. After a short scene of indescribable excitement, the passengers' fears were allayed.
