The Union Co.'s steamer Australia left for the East Coast and Wellington yesterday afternoon. Las.t night the Northern Co.'s steamer lona left for Kuaotunu and Mercury Lay. The Northern Co.'s steamer Cuelinsford left last evening for Tairua, Wliaugamata, and Whakatane. Last evening the Northern Company's Steamer Douglas left for Whangarei. , The Union Company's steamer Upolu went lip to Chelsea yesterday morning, to discharge her cargo of raw sugar, and leaves for Wellington at noon to-day. Yesterday morning the schooner Aotea Bailed for the East Coast and Gisborne. The brigantine Ladv Mabol was floated ont of the Auckland Dock yesterday afternoon, and berthed at the Hobson-street Wharf. She is to sail for Mercury Bay tomorrow, to load timber for Sydney. Yesterday the American barque B. Webster hauled out into the stream, and will sail for Newcastle to-day, with a large quantity of Firth's patent pumice. Early this morning the Northern Company's steamer Clansman arrives from the North, and leaves for Tauranga in the evening. The steamer Indra will be floated out of the Calliope Dock at daylight this morning, and berth at the Queen-street Wharf to ship wool, etc,, for London. . On the 17th instant the Union Company's steamer Taieri arrived at Suva from Sydney, and was to load raw sugar through the Group for this port, leaving Suva to-morrow. The Union Company's steamer Poherua is to load raw sugar at Fiji for this port, and is expected to arrive about December 14. • THE'MAUAPOURI.. ! ; ;ij . The Union Company's steamer Manapouri, Captain John Anderson, arrived from Melbourne, Hobart, and Southern ports at 8.30 o'clock lost night. , Mr. Nancarrow,. the purser, reports: The Mannpouriief the Town Wharf, Melbourne,, at 9 p.m. on the 14th inst., aud cleared Pore Philip Heads at 0.54 a.m., on the 15th. Arrived at Hobart at 1 p.m. on the 16th, and left again at 9 40 p.m. the same day. Had Puysegur Point abeam at 7.40 p.m. on the 19th, and arrived at the Bluff at 4.50 a.m. on the SOtli. Left again at 3.45 p.m. the name date, mid called at Dunklin on the 21at, Lyttelton on the 22nd, Wellington on the 24th, Napier on the 26th, and Gisborne on the 27th, leaving the latter port at 8.40 p.m. the same date, and arrived as .'stated, Experienced moderate west to south-west wind and squally weather whilo crossing the Tasman Sea; from the Bluff to Wellington light southerly winds with occasional rain squalls; thence to leaving Gisborne strong south to _ south-east gale with continuous heavy rain, thence to arrival fine weather, The Maujpouri leaves for Sydney at noon to-day.

THE BORROWDALE. ie3tcrday afternoon the ship Borrowdale, froin Lyttelton, anchored Dear the Lake landing owing to the wind blowing strong from the south-west. She will come into harbour this morning. The ship sailed from Lyttelton on tho 13th inst., rounding the East Cape on tho 17th, and has had nothing but a succession of head winds to thresh up against the whole time. The Borrowdale is au iron ship belonging to Messrs. Nicholson and McGill, of Liverpool, and was built by Messrs. W. H. Potter and Co., of the same port in ISGS, her dimensions being: Length, '.26"4 feet; breadth, 30"4 feet; depth, 22 feet gross tonnage, 1277. She sailed from New iork on June 15, width a cargo of American for Dunediu and Lyttelton, *nd met with some very rough weather during the voyage. She comes to this port under charter to the New Zealand Shipping Company to load general cargo for London, and is to have prompt despatch, it being expected that she will be ready for sea in abont three weeks' time,

THE ALAMEDA. The mail steamer Alameda is expected to arrive from Sydney this evening, and will leave for Apia, Honolulu, and San Pranoisco at two o'clock to-morrow afternoon.

_ THE KOA. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer To Koa is now 5u (lays out from London, and may be expected to arrive tomorrow. On discharge of cargo she will take in general cargo for London, proceeding to Southern ports to complete.

THE ISLAND STEAMERS. Messrs. Donald and Edenborough's steamer Richmond is expected to arrive from Tahiti and Rarotonga to-day. The Union Company's steamer Ovalau, from I'iji, Samoa, and Tonga, is due at this port to-morrow.

, SHIPPING SUMMARY. .Business in shipping circles has been very pi'iak during: the past month, and tho tonnage in and out of the port has consequently been very large. The coastal trade is also brisk, aM suitable vessels are at present scarce, this more especially applying to the coal trade. During the past few years there has been no vessels of the smaller class built, and the gaps which have been caused by loss or sale to other ports have not been filled up. This is now making itself apparent, as now that there is plenty of work to do there are no vessels wi which to carry it on. The Harbour lloard, with a view of meeting the increased demand for berthage accommodation, propose to run out another jetty from QuayStreet, 350 feet long and 90 feet wide, dredging to a sufficient depth for vessels of moderate draught to berth. The movements of vessels in and out. of the port have boen as fol oi?sOn the 2nd inst tho cargo steamer i alteha left for Southern ports to complete her loading for London. The mail steamer Alameda arrived from San Francisco, Honolulu, and Apiiion the Gth instant, landing her mails a day ahead of contract date. The Union Company's steamer Poherna arrived from I'm the same day with raw sugar, and j left; for Sydney 011 the 9th. The London Missionary Society's steamer John \> ultima arrived from Sydney and Southern ports on the Bth, and left for the Islands on the 12th. On the 11th the three-masted schooner Ysabel arrived from an island cruise with cotton, copra, etc., and is now loading up for the Friendly Group. The barque Kathleen Hilda arrived from Newcastle with coal on the 13th, and is now loading white pine timber at the Thames for Melbourne. On the same day the brigautine Defiance arrived from Newcastle with coal, and is now on the way to Kaiparato load timber for Sydnov. The Union Company's steamer Upolu left for Fiji on the 13th with a miscellaneous cargo of produce, timber, etc., and returned on the 28th with raw sugar, fruit, etc. On the 16th the Nova Scottan barquentine Albertina, arrived from New York via Wellington, with part cargo of American merchandise. She is now loading with kanri gum for New York, and will sail next week, The brigantine Lady Mabel arrived from Newcastle with coal on the same date, and sails for Mercnry Bay in a day or two, to load Umber for Sydney. On the 18th, the Dublin ship Rathdown sailed for Liverpool, after undergoing re-stowage of cargo and general repair, On the 20th, the Tyser Company s steamer Star of England arrived from London, via Australian ports, with general cargo, and loft on the 23rd for the •South, to complete her loading for London. The barques Royal Tar and Natal Queen both arrived from Newcastle with coal on the 20th. The former is now on the way to Kaipara, to load timber for Melbourne, and the latter is loading timber at the Thame? for Melbourne, The Colonial Sugar Refining Company's steamer Fiona arrived from Fiji with raw sugar on the 21st, and left for Sydney on the 23rd. The barque uenona sailed for the Kaipara, on the 21st to load timber for Melbourno. The cargo steamer Indra arrived from Capetown, via 1 ort Kembla, in ballast, on the 26th, and has been docked for cleaning and paiuting. She loads wool, etc., for Loudon under charter to the New Zealand Shipping Company, and leaves for the South to complete her loading about Thursday next. The ship Borrowdale arrived from Lyttelton on the 28th, and loads at this l)ort i for London. The American barque B, Webster sails for Newcastle today to load coal for Valparaiso. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's ship Crusader is now loading for London, and is expected to sail about the middle of next month. The barque Allonby is no w transhipping the cargo of the condemned ship Wolverene for Liverpool- The American barque Alice has arrived at u ellington from New York, and comes on to this port with part cargo on discharge of which she loads with kauri gum and flax for New York.
