■ ; [prom our own CORRESPONDENT. (Jam bridge, Monday. The ordinary monthly meeting of the abovo Council was held at Morrinsville, on Friday last.' Present: Messrs. Chepmell (chairman), Herries, Gavin Hunt, Harrison, and Hodgson. New Member.—Mr. W. S. Allen, the newly-elected member for Waitoa riding, was heartily welcomed by the chairman, and took his seat. ' . The Late Mr. Seddon.—The Chairman made a feeling reference to the death of Mr. Seddon, and eulogised their deceased colleague. It was resolved to forward a letter of condolence to Mrs. Seddon in her bereavement. , _ Licensing Expenses.—The Clerk read a letter which he had sent ..to the Hon._ Mr. Cadman, re the dispute between the Waikato and Piako counties anent payment of commission to clerk of former county for services performed under Liquor Sale Control Act, and asking the Minister to endeavour to get the point settled definitely in new Liquor Bill, whether such charge was legal or otherwise. The Hon. Mr. Cadman, in reply, said that a memo, of the matter had * been sent to the Premier for his consideration. ' His own opinion was," that the duties of the clerk to the administrative body should not be considered of an honorary character, and that all work outside his ordinary duties should be paid for. Waiorongomai Tramway.—Mr. James Miller, solicitor, Thames, wrote stating that a wealthy syndicate had lately acquired considerable mining property in the vicinity of the tramway and hoped that the Council would not part with control of same, as it was thought by his clients that better arrangements could be made with the Council than with a private individual. [The tramway is at present leased to Mr. George Taylor, whose lease expires in March next.] Mr. Taylor wrote saying that the gross receipts on tramway for last six months were only £21 18s. Mr. Gavin gave a very favourable report concerning Mr. Taylor's care of the tramway property, and it was resolved to remit the past halt year's rent. Mr. Gavin brought up a report upon necessary works required at W aiorongomai, as follows; Tramway, two brake frames, £70; middle bridge over tramway in kauri, £13: upper track, three bridges and clearing, £70; middle track extension, £50; lower track, bridge and clearing, £65 : total, £'268. It was resolved to ask the Minister of Mines to place a sum on the goldfields' estimates for these works. Mr. Gavin was thanked for his report, and also authorised to get the middle bridge erected. The Roads.The foremen of works reported upon what work had been done, and made several recommendations. Reports adopted. It was further resolved : (I) That approaches to Piako Bridge be put in proper order; (2) that specifications be prepared for repair of Thames-Waikato Road near Waihou; and (3) same road near Te Aroha Bridge. On suggestion of Mr. Herries, it was resolved to call for tenders for repairs to Te Aroha-Lichtield Road for a distance of one mile from southern bouadary of Wairakau estate. Mr. Gavin also drew attention to a bad part of the same road, between Waiorongomai and Wairakau. Specifications were ordered to be prepared for this work, and laid before next meeting. It was resolved to write to the Railway Department, asking for a grant of £30 towards repairing the damage caused to Te ArohaLichfield Road by the Department. Thompson's Track.—On the motion of Mr. Herries, it was resolved to ask the Government to make Thompson's track into a coach road. . Thirds.lntimation was received _ that thirds amounting to £18 10a were available in the Wairere district. The disposal of this sum was left to Mr. Herries to report upon. Plans. —Mr. Pavitfc wrote stating that he hoped to have certain specified plans ready by the October meeting of Council. It was resolved that if work is not completed by the time stated, the Council will consider what action to take to protect their interests. A Fenced Road.— Murphy wrote, drawing attention to the fact that Mr. Clark had fenced across a road at Waiorongomai. It was resolved to request Mr. Clark to remove the obstruction. _ . . _ Accounts. —Accounts amounting to £317 18s 6d were passed for payment, and Council rose. ■ -
