RELICS OF LORD NELSON.

REMARKABLE SALE IN LONDON. The sale ab Christie's, on July 12, of the silver, presentation plate, enamelled gold boxes, gold sword hilts, medals, orders, etc., formerly in the possession of Admiral Viscounb Nelson, and until recently the property of the Right Hon. Viecoant Bridport, attracted a great number of people. Many of the articles were unquestionably auch as ought to hare been secured by and for the nation, and, as a matter of fact, eleven medal* and orders which were worn by Lord Nelson at the time he was killed at Trafalgar, were almost at the last moment withdrawn, having been purchased by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir Michael Hicks-Beach, for the nation. Among the articles sold the following were the most interesting and realised the highest figures : —An aigrette of rose diamonds, presented to Lord Nelson by the Sultan of Turkey, after the Battle of the Kile, £710; a paste brooch, which served as tho fastening to the "Cloak of Honour," presented to Nelson by the Sultan of Turkey, £260 ; a brilliant necklace, consisting of the stones removed from the Sword of Honour, presented to Nelson by the King of Naples, £1250; a pair of circular Entree dishes, presented to Nelson by the committee for managing a subscription for the wounded and relatives of the friends of the killed at the Battle of the Nile, £155 ; a pair of icopails, covers and liners, presented to Nelson by a similar committee after the victory obtained off Copenhagen, April, 1801, weighing 151oz, £400; anobher pair, en suite, but 3oz lighter, £370 ; a pair of twohandled boat-shaped sauce-tureens, £135 ; another pair, £195 ; Lord Nelson's inkstand, silver gilt, presented to him fay Sir William and Lady Hamilton, £520; a circular salvor box, containing the freedom of the Borough of Plymouth, conferred on Lord Nelson, January 22, 1801, £90; an oblong box, of oak, mounted with engraved silver, containing the freedom of the Borough of Thetford, Norfolk, conferred on Nelson, October 30, 1798, £85; an oval gold box, presented to Nelson with the freedom of the City of. London, March 10, 1797, £1050; gold sword hilt, presented by the captains of the fleet to Nelson for "his prompt decision and intrepid conduct in the attack on the French fleet in Bequier Road of the Nile, the Ist of August, 1798," £10S0 ; an oblong ivory patch-box, with a plait of Lord Nelson's hair, iu gold border, £45 ; the combined gold fork and knife used by Lord Nelson, presented to Nelson by the Countess ot Spencer at the time when the Earl of Spencer was First Lord ot the Admiralty, £260 ; two gold medals in commemoration of the victory of the Nile by C. H. Kuchlor, 145 guineas each.
