On August 29 tho barque Acacia arrived at Sydney from Melbourne with a cargo of wheat. Sutton, the purser, to whom we are indebted for our files, reports: —The Alameda left Sydney at 5.30 p.m. on : Monday last, and for the first 30 hours experienced strong north-west gales and rough sea thence moderate north to west winds aud;fine weather until making the New Zealand coast, followed by thick, rainy weather to arrival. THE OTARAMA, .Yesterday morning ■ the New Zealand Shipping Company's cargo steamer Otarama arrived from London and Teneriffe, with a large cargo of general merchandise. Having a number of explosive on board the steamer anchored at the Powder Ground, where she was boarded by Dr. T. Hope Lewis, the health officer, who, finding everything ia order, gave the usual clean bill of health. After puttiug out the explosives steamer came up harbour and berthed at the wharf, where the • work of discharging cargo was at once proceeded with. Captain C. A. Millward. K.N.R., is still in command of the Otarama, and brings his vessel into port in excellent order, and to him we are indebted for the following report of the voyage : The Otarama left the Royal Albert Docks on July 8, and called in at Hoiehaven to take a shipment of explosives on board. At nine o'clock next morning the voyage was resinned, and fine weather prevailed until anchoring at Teneriffe on the morning of the IGth. Leaving again at 4 p.m. the same date, moderate | north-east and south-east trades and fine j weather was met with down the African coa3t. Rounded the Cape of Good Hope on August 6. and on the run across the Southern Ocean the usual westerly winds prevailed, neither ice nor wreckage being sighted. The south of Tasmania was passed on the 30th, and on the 2nd instant a t'resh north-westerly gale was met with, moderating on the 4th, and continuing fine until arrival at 6 a.m. yesterday. NEW MISSION VESSEL. Yesterday the Rev. P. W. Walker, of the London Missionary Society, returned by the Clansman from Whangaroa, aud states that the new lugger which he is haviug constructed by Messrs. Lane and Brown, of that place, for mission work in British New Guinea, is making satisfactory progress. It is expected that the little vessel will be ready for sea in about the end of October, and it is intended that she shall sail direct to New Guioea. This course has been decided upon in consequence of it being feared that the delay which would necessarily take place if the vessel were brought down to Auckland first would run the time too close to the hurricane season, and therefore it was not considered wise to run any risks. It is very gratifying to learn that Mr. Walker is well satisfied with the class of workmanship and material being used in the construction of the vessel, and takiug everything into consideration he leela that he has been fully justified in having the vessel built here.

THE JOHN WILLIAMS. The London Missionary Society's steamer John Williams is expected to arrive at this port about the middle of next month, on her way to the South Sea Islands and British New Guinea. During the stay of the vessel, she will bo thrown open for public inspection. The commander of the John Williams is Captain E. C.
