VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
An inspection parade of the Devonporb Naval Artillery was held In the Drill-shed lasb night. The night was very wet, but there was a fairly good attendance of 28 in the ranks, three subalterns, and three officers, namely, Lieutenant-Commander Parker, Lieutenants Davis and Thomas, Colonel Goring was the inspecting officer. After inspection the parade was taken over by Sergeanb-Major Carpenter for infantry drill, and on the officers resuming command the parade was taken over by the inspecting board of officers. This Board, consisting of Lieutenant-Colonel Goring, Major Pirie, and Adjutanb Grant, had held a sitting during the day and examined theoretically the two officers, Lieutenants Davis and Spinloy, who had now come up for their practical examination. The young officers appeared to have a fairly good practical knowledge of drill and movements, but their theoretic knowledge will no doubt weigh with the examiners.
