Monowai Amalgamated.— crosscut in the Monowai section has been extended a further distance of seven feet this week. This is rather slow work, bub it is accounted for from the fact that the country penetrated has been very tight, and difficult bo break out. It is expected that No. 2 reet will be to hand within the next 10 feet of driving. Mr. French, the expert metallurgist, arrived ab the company's reduction plant on Wednesday last, and since then has been making the necessary preparations for altering the system of treatment of ore now in vogue. What shape the change is to take has nob yeb been made public, bub it is stated on good aubhority that about 40 tons of new machinery is to be delivered at the plant shortly. Pakroa, Saturday. Crown.— A splendid body of quartz about four feet thick is showing in the face ab No. 6 level, and the quality of ore is still of high grade, so that the run of ore is not only a rich one, but ib is also extensive. A leading stope is now being carried along ab the end of the run, and in the workings the lode is producing payable quartz, the lode being about twelve feet wide. At the No. 4 level the lode recently recovered is being opened up expeditiously, three shifts being engaged in extending the drive. The ore body shows a thickness of about five or six feet, the footwall portion of which carries payable stone, lb is nob expected, however, that the upper portion of th« good shoot of ore now being worked at No. 6 level will be reached unbil the level has been advanced some distance further ahead.

Ivanhok. —The contractors are losing no time in pushing ahead the low level tunnel a distance of about 25 feet, having been driven through a fine channel of country. This augurs well for the lode when intersected. ,<• Waihi Sooth.— shaft is now down about 42 feet, and the pumping machinery having been erected sinking is to be commenced at once.

KAPAI-VERMONT.

SPLENDID RESULT.

The steadily advancing quotations for Kapai-Vermont shares during the past couple of weeks, clearly showed that there was a general indication and expectation of improvement in the prospects of the mine, and. this is more than borne out by the splendid yield obtained from this, the leading mine in Kuaotunu, as the result of the month's operations. The manager's telegram, announcing the result of the cleaning up at the company's reduction plant, was at once posted in the Exchange, and it gave universal satisfaction. It was brief, bub effective, as follows :—" Treated 256 tons of ore for 8940z melted gold." The gold being worth £2 10s per ounce, this gives a return of £2235, or, at the rate of almost 3oz 3dwb to the ton. The return for the previous month was 3850z, so that the present return shows an advance of 5090z, equal in value to £1273. This is a result which fully justifies the rise which has taken place in the markot value of the share 6 in the company's stock.

WOODSTOCK UNITED G.M. CO.

ANOTHER GOOD RETURN.

Mr. McCombie, mine manager of the Woodstock United Gold Mining Company, Karangahake, telegraphed the result of the monthly cleaning up at the company's battery and cyanide plant on Saturday forenoon. Tho report is a satisfactory one, namely : " Banked £988 sterling, value of bullion from 240 tons." This is an increase of £69 on the previous month's yield, although the quantity of ore treated is eight tons less. The present month's yield is at the rate of £4 Is 8d per ton. WAITEKAURI G.M. CO. ADDITIONALRETURNS. On Saturday we announced the result of the cleaning up of ore from the Golden Cross section of the Waitekauri Company's mine, treated at the battery and cyanide plant erected there, bub were unable then to give the result obtained from the Komata section of the mine, as ib had not come to hand. We now loam that the amount of bullion won from the tailings from Komata ore treated at the company's large plant— the old Waitekauri battery—by berdau and cyanide, is 7580z of bullion, value £387. This, with the £730 won from the Golden Cross section, makes a total of £1117 for the present month, an increase of £93 upon the return for tho previous month.

FAVONA AND BRILLIANT.

FLOATED IN ENGLAND.

These are two sections each containing 100 acres situated at Waihi, adjoining the Grand Junction, and they have been, we are informed, successfully floated in the London market through the agency of Sir Julius Vogel, final arrangements having been concluded by cable on Saturday. The properties have been floated as one, and the basis is that the new company is to supply £45,000 working capital. The company is bo have a capital stock of 150,000 shares, but further details are nob yeb made public. OPERATIOUS IN WAIHI DISTRICT._ In regard to the West Waihi and the Grand Junction operations we are informed that in each mine the shaft is now down 40 foet. The Grand Junction shaft is 14 feet by 5 feet, bub that of the West Waihi is much smaller, being 9 feet by 4 feet. On both machinery has been erected for pumping and winding. LYDIA LICENSED HOLDING. A plaint for forfeiture has been made in regard to the Lydia Licensed holding at Maroboto, the grounds being that the holding has been applied for six months and has nob yet begn surveyed. The reason for the delay we are informed has been pressure of work on the part of the surveyors pressure which was unavoidable. AUCKLAND SHAREMARKET. Although the market was only open for half a day on Saturday there was a very extensive amount of business transacted, favours being pretty equally distributed over all the districts. Upper Thames stocks again held a leading position, the higher-priced shares being in greatesb demand, a proof in itself of confidence in the stability of the mines. Waihi-Silvertons sold at 44s and 44s 61, these being the relative closing quotations. Woodstock United changed hands at 30s 9d, closing with buyers 30s 6d, sellers, 325; and a number of transactions took place in lower priced stocks. There were buyers of Waitekauris at 555, bub sellers wanted 60*, and no dealings were reported. There were buyers of Alphas at 5s 91, and sellers at 6s. Grace Darlings changed hands at 3s, and there are sellers at that price, and Waitekauri No. 4 reached Is 4d. Bunker's Hills sold at 4s 4d. In Lower Thames shares, Alburnias realised 4s, and sellers now ask 4s 2d, but buyers only offer 3s 9d. Moanataiaris again sold at 7s, a price which they have sustained for some time. Monowais were quoted wibb buyers at 3s, but no sales were reported.

Red Gauntlet (iVarangahake, July 31).— The drive has now been carried a distance of ninety-eight feet, and has passed through the broken country. The reef is now a compact body of quartz about two feet in thickness, having a promising appearance, the quartz being heavily charged with mineral. No gold, however, has yet been Been in the stone. ■ ■ „ . , Norfolk (July Connection was made between the rise and winze this morning. The rise is five feet to the westward side of the winze. The distance between the two levels is 190 feet, this will give a little over 90 feet of backs from where I intend opening out the intermediate, level. The reef averages three feet, and is about one-third mineral.
