Baron Von Miteujck, the Australian scientist, was 70 years old yesterday. The bust, of the late Mr. Hen Blundell is to be placed in the main corridor of the Wellington Hospital. Colonel Fox, Commandant of the New Zealand Forces, arrived from Wellington by theTakapuna yesterday. Mr. Johnson, late of the Union Company's service, has been appointed chief officer of the steamer Wendouree, in the Australian trade.

The Hon. Mr. Maclauriri, M.L.C., New South Wales, will be the chairman of the Sydney Board of Directors of the Taranaki Petroleum Company, Limited. Mr. Home, headmaster of the Petone School, hue .declined candidature for the Vice-Presidency of the Wellington bianch of the New Zealand Educational Institute. Captain William Waller, late of the Kotomahana, has been appointed to the * command of the Flora, Captain Bernech, of the latter vessel, going over to the Corinna. Captain Spruit, well-known >?> Auckland as master of several vessels engaged in the intercolonial trade, lias joined the barque Manua Ala as chief officer. The barque is now on the voyage from Newcastle to Honolulu. Mr. Herbert Conolly, third son of Mr. Justice Conolly, was married at Wellington on Wednesday lasb to Mis* Cecilia Brown, the ceremony being performed by the Very Rev. Father Devoy, VicarGeneral, in the vestry of St. Mary of the Angels' Cnurch, Boulcott-street. The bride was given away by her brother, Mr. Alister Brown. The newly-married couple left for their new home at Danevirke next morning.

Several of the vessels in port were, on Saturday, decorated with liberal displays of bunting in honour of the marriage of Mr. E. Neale, chief officer of the Forfarshire, with Miss Amy Bennett, second daughter of Mr. H. Bennett of the Pier Hotel. The wedding took place at St. Matthew's Church, the Rev. Mr. FitzGerald officiating, the bridesmaids being Miss Maud Landeshut and Miss Alice Pollard, niece and daughter of Mr. Pollard of the Liliputian Opera Company. After the breakfast, which was laid at the bride's father's, the newly-wedded pair left for Hamilton. •
