THE PRIVY COUNCIL.

APPOINTMENT OF COLONIAL JUDGES. Press Association.— Electric Telegraph.— Copyright:. London, May 27. T In the House of Lords the Premier, Lord Rosebery, introduced the Colonial Judges (Privy Council) Bill. He explained that the measure specially referred to Australia, and expressed the hope that it would form a valuable link in the Empire. Lords Knutsford, Halsbury, and Herschel supported the Bill, which was read a first time. Though no provision for salaries ia made in the Bill, it is understood that the Imperial Government will pay colonial Judges appointed to the Council unless the House of Commons refuses to agree to their payment, If the services of acting colonial Judges are not available, ex-colonial Judges resident in England will be allowed to sit. The Times, in discussing the Bill, complains that it is microscopic and tentative.
