WELLINGTON NEWS NOTES.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Tuesday. DEPARTMENT OF LABOUR. The Hon. Mr. Reeves delivered an address last night to the Amalgamated Carpenters and Joiners' Union upon the provisions of the Arbitration and Conciliation Acts, the Workman's Lien Act, and cognate subjects. The Minister and Mr. Trcgear proceeded this afternoon to the State farm at Levin.

THE TARTFF COMMISSION. The members, I am informed, concluded their labours this morning. They have produced a most voluminous report, full from beginning to end of debatable material for the coming session. THE REGISTRATION OF MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS ACL'. A singular case was before Mr. Justice Richmond this morning. The facts aro as follow:— William Todd proceeded from Auckland to the College of Surgeons and Physicians afc Chicago, and kept the "terms" there from tho October quarter to April, 1893. Thence ho proceeded to Cooper's Medical College at San Francisco for terms, thus claiming to have put in three years of medical study. The Registrar-General refused registration on the ground that these three years did did not represenb what is called Anni Medici in the language of the medical profession. It appears that the " terms " devoted to study fall short of the so-called threo medical years. Mr. Todd summoned the Registrar-General to show cause why be refused to registrar. lb was stated that Todd pub in six months at ono school, and then six months at another school, thus putting, as it were, two years into one. The applicant said if he could put tho whole of tho study practice into two years instead of three there was still a fulfilment of the requirements of the statute. The case has nob concluded.
