Mb. R. Blair, manager of the Kauri Timber Company, left for the South yesterday by the Takapuna. Mr. R. Thompson, M.H. R., arrived from Whangarei last night to attend the meeting of the Crown Lands Board today. Mr. Ellison, the owner of the ship Wolverene, arrived from Sydney by the Rotomahana, on business connected with hi? vessel. Sir Thomas Fowell Burton, the new Governor of South Australia, is first cousin to Mr. Sydney Buxton, Under-Secretary for the colonies. Mr. W. A. Runciman, eon of the Rev. D. W. Runciman, left for the South by the Takapuna yesterday to join one of the direct steamers for Buenos Ayres. The rural deanery of Petersham (Sydney) having become vacant through the resignation of the Rer. C. Baber, of All Saints', Petersham, the Primate has appointed the Rev. J. C. Corlette, D.D., incumbent of St. John the Baptist's, Ashfield, to the position. It is the intention of the co-religionists of the late Hon. P. S. Solomon, Q.C., M.L.C., of Fiji, to erect over the deceased gentleman's grave a suitable tablet or tombstone. For many years Mr. Solomon was the recognised head of those professing the Hebrew faith in Fiji, and acted as their Rabbi and spiritual adviser and friend. Mr. T. A. Browne ("Rolf Boldrewood") gat on the Bench as Police Magistrate for the last time at Corowa, New South Wales, on the 17th instant. A large number of magistrates assembled to bid him farewell. Mr. Browne said he was retiring from the public service in order to continue his literary pursuits. He intends living in Melbourne. Those interested in art will be pleased to hear of the success of another Australian artist, Miss F. A. Fuller, of Melbourne, who has had a picture accepted at the Paris Salon this year, the subject being "A Portrait of a Lady." Miss Fuller is a member of the Sydney Art Society, and is shortly expected back in the colonies after more than three years' absence^ A handsome stained-glass window has recently been erected in St. Paul's Church, Cobbitty, Sydney, in memory of the late Sir Charles Cowper, who was for 30 years one of the churchwardens of the church. The window* which is in the transept, is a large three-lighb window, the centre light being about 17 feet high. The inscription is as follows :—" To the glory of God, and in memory of Charles Cowper, K.C.M.G., of Wivenhoe, Agent-General for this colony, churchwarden of this church for 30 years. Died in London, October 19th, 1875, aged 68." By the arrival of the s.s. Rotomahana, yesterday morning, Mr. M. H. Limon, the sheep disease specialist, was a passenger from Sydney. Mr. Limon intends to make a tour of the northern and southern portions of the colony, to inspect the diseases with which the sheep in many districts are affected. Yesterday afternoon he had a long interview with Mr. F. Lawry, M.H.R. and Chairman of the Stock Committee of the House of Representatives. Mr. Lawry took a keen interest in what Mr. Limon had to say, and at once telegraphed to the Minister of Railways to grant a free pass to Mr. Limon during his short sojourn amongst us. Mr. Limon has received a large number of very kind letters inviting him to visit certain districts, the writers promising to aid him in his researches to the utmost of their power.
