It is stated that the reduction of all salaries over £200 per annum has been agreed to by all the officers concerned.

POLICE ARRANGEMENTS.

There is a new revision of tho North Island district. Inspector Hickeon retains tho Auckland district as it is. The other districts—Hawko's Bay, Taranaki, and Wellington—will be divided into two, Inspector Emerson having his headquarters at Napier, and Inspector Thomson his at Wellington. THE UNEMPLOYED.

The cry of "no work" conies in positive form from Masterton. Mr. Hogg, M.H.R., gives it emphasis. A meeting was held thero last night, when sixty strapping young follows offered themselves for any work that was to be had, and a resolution was passed that no more workmen should be sent into the Wairarapa from the South. SYNDICATE, One or two dark" nights here have called attention to this company or syndicate, aud a question was asked at the Council last nigh* whether it was true that syndicate was in course of re construction. Mr. Suckling Barron, the Wellington manager, gave the following explanation:— Extra moneys were lately needed to provide for an extension of plant in connection with private lighting in Wellington for this winter, and as all the original capital had been called up ib was necessary to reconstruct. In doing this time is required to comply with certain formalities, and meanwhile Mr. Kolman, secretary of the syndicate, h?e been appointed by tho Court as receiver and manager, with power to borrow in anticipation of the re-construc-tion. There are practically no creditors in the colony, and all London creditors were fully paid within a tew days of the above arrangement being arrived at. The contract with Wellington will nob bo affected in any respect. tJ
