She leaves for the town wharf, Whangarei, this evening. The steamer Tasmania left for Sydney yesterday afternoon, with a number of passengers, her departure being witnessed by a large crowd. The steamer had eight valuable racehorses on board, and special quarters were fitted up in the lower hold for them, so as to minimise as much as possible the danger of any acoident occurring to them daring rough weather. 4-Last night the Northern Co,'a steamer Clansman left for Russell, Whanswoa, and Mangonui. Yesterday the barquentine Waitemata arrived at Sydney from the Kaipira,] and is still keeping op her reputation for fast trips. On discharge of cargo she proceeds, to Newcastle to load coal for this port for Mr. J. J. Craig. The schooner Alice May is on the berth for Norfolk Island, and will sail about Friday next. Mr. (x. V. Edgecumlbe is the agent for the vessel. At ten o'clock yesterday morning the Union Company's steamer Australia left Gisborne for this port. She is expected to arrive to-morrow, and her departure fer the East Coast, Napier, and Wellington has been fixed for 5 p.m. on Thursday. The schooner Medora, which has been sheltering under Marsden Point, resumed her passage to the North yesterday. _ On Sunday, the schooner Annie Hill sailed from the Thames for Lyttelton, with a cargo of white pine timber, shipped at Bagaafi's mill.
Yesterday, the barqnentinc George C Perkins sailed from the Kaipara for Mel bourne.
The barque Annosana, which put into Port Chalmers some time ago in a disabled condition, resumed her voyage to Chili yesterday.
THE ROTO KINO. The Union Company's steamer Rotokino, Captain C. Spinks, arrived at 8 o'clock last night from the South with a large cargo of grain and general produce. Mr. Harlow, the purser, reports that the steamer left the Bluff on the 21st, Dunedin and Oamaru on the 23rd, Timaru on the 24th. and Lyttelton on the 26th, leaving the latter port at 6 p.m.; rounded the East Cape at 10 p.m. on the 28th, and had Cuvier abeam at 2.30 p.m. on the 29th, arriving as above, and anchoring in the stream. Experienced fresh south-east winds with confused sea to the East Cape, thence fine weather to arrival. The Rotokino will berth at the Quay-street jetty this morning to discharge. She leaves for Sydney to-morrow. , _ ... THE MARAROA. The Union Company's steamer Mararoa, was to leave Gisborne for this port at eight o'clock last night, and may be expected to arrive about six o'clock this evening. She proceeds on to Sydney to morrow at 2 p.m. THE WAIHORA. The Union Company's steamer Waihora left Sydney for this port at eleven o'clock on Thursday night, and is expected to arrive daring this afternoon. She leaves for Southern ports, Hobart, and Melbourne at two p.m. to-morrow. THE ANGLIAN. There was no sign of the steamer Anglian from Sydney up to an early hour this morning, but she should put in an appearance at any moment. She will leave for the East Coast and Southern ports a few hours after arrival. THE WARSHIPS. The Pylades went out into the gulf yesterday morning for quarterly prize firing. The Rapid leaves for Samoa on receipt of her moils by the Sydney steamer, due today. The Wallaroo, from this port, arrived at Sydney yesterday. The Royalist and Water witch leave Sydney for the Islands in a few days. The Tauranga, which has been on the reserve at Sydney, was put under steam for the usual periodical trial on the 13th inst. Officers and men were supplied from the Mildura,_aud the Tauranga was taken for a spin outside the Heads. The speed attained was highly satisfactory, and the machinery worked splendidly. The German warship Falke, which has been anchored in Jervia Bay for several weeks, was to return to Sydney this week.
THE ADELAIDE— ROUGH TRIP. On the 18th inst. the barquentiue Adelaide, attired at Sydney from the Thames after an exceedingly rough trip. Captain John Dunn reports Bailing on the 28th ultimo, and anchored under Raugitoto on the 29th owing to heavy south-east winds and thick weather, remaining there until the 31st. Fresh southerly and south-easterly winds' were experienced until the 10th inst., when a terrific southerly gale was met with, lasting three days, during which time the vessel was hove-to. On the 12th a heavy sea struck the ship, washing away part of the rails and the light screens. The weather moderated on the 13th, and remained fine until arrival. FORT OF OHEHUNGA. DEPARTURE. The Union Company's steamer Takapuna left yesterday morning for New Plymouth, Wellington, and Lyttelton. > Owing to having been detained at Hokianga by bad weather, the departure of the Northern Company 8 steamer Glenelg for New Plymouth has been fixed for 1 o'clock this afternoon. Wellington, April 29. — The ketch Kestrel, which went ashore near Colling, wood, in the recent gale, has been floated off and taken to Nelson for repairs. The damage to her hull is estimated at about £150. A NEW ROCK. Wellington, April 29.—Captain McLean, of the s.a. Mawhera, has informed the Collector of Customs that whon he was at Croixelles. last week, Mr. Mace, sawmiller, reported that he had found a sunken rock, with two feet of water on it at low tide. Its position, as near as possible, is one mile north-east of Clock Point (Whanganae Bay), and in a line from Capo Souoia to Done I Point, clpar to the north-east.
