COMMERCLALJBANK OF AUSTRALIA. Melbourne, February 3. At a meeting of the Commercial Bank of Australia, Mr. Service stated that a reduction of £20,000 had been made in the annual expenditure, and the assets realisation account had been reduced by nearly £700,000 The liabilities of the new Bank were £1,800,000, and the assets £4,800,000, all of che latter being sound. The Bank had anticipated the extended deposit receipts since re-construction to the extent of nearly half-a-million. The business of the institution was good, and the rumours as to the stability of the Bank were without a shadow of truth.

A DANGEROUS EXPLOSION. Sydney, February 3. One of the digestors of Oddys' boiling ' down works at Deniliquin exploded yesterday, and the heavy iron top, with 200 carcasses of sheep, was blown through the roof high into the air. Boiling fat was sent in all direction, and the employee' miraculously escaped injury. TREATMENT OF SULPHIDE ORE AT BROKEN HILL. Sydney, February 2. The proprietors of Block 10 mine at Broken Hill hare decided to erect a concentrating plant capable of treating 2000 tons of crude sulphide ore per week. They state thit the small planb in use at present has thoroughly demonstrated the success of this method. APPOINTMENT OF AN ARCHDEACON Sydney, February 2. Canon Flowers, of Ballarat, has been appointed Archdeacon of Grafton. PUBLIC WORKS IN NEW SOUTH WALES. Sydney, February 2. Speaking at the opening of the Burwood* Marrickville Railway, Mr. J. H. Young, Minister of Public Works, said the Government considered ib was justifiable to construct public works which would pay. As the cloud of depression was passing away, he believed the construction of railways would be taken up in earnest, and the Government would submit proposals for several important lines directly Parliament met. ANOTHER RICH GOLD FIND. , Perth, February 3. An enormously rich discovery has been made in Hayes Brothers' claim, near the White Feather mine. A sample of 3001b of stone, which has been brought, contained £300 worth of gold, in addition to 200oz of gold dollied. The stone is white quartz, with nuggets clinging to it. Several parties have left to peg out claims.
