stock INSPECTION. [BY telegraph.—pkkss ASSOCIATION.) Napier, Friday. At a meeting of the Agricultural and Pastoral Society this morning, some gtrong comments were made on the present inefficient system of stock inspection. The discussion ended in Captain Russell giving the following notice of motion for next meeting : "That in the opinion of the members of the Hawke's Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society it is absolutely essential for the proper supervision of the stock industry, and in the interest of consumers of meat, that a regular scientific branch should be added to the Agricultural Department of the Government, and that, to give effect to this opinion, the services of an eminent bacteriologist should be obtained from Europe to report on the various diseases in sheep and cattle, the origin, nature, and prevention of which are at present unknown." The committee presented a report on sheep drenches for parasitic worms. | Last year 200 lambs, all badly infected and of even quality, were divided into ten pens of 20 each. Nine drenches were entered for competition, the tenth pen being left undrenched. All were kept nnder identical conditions and inspected from time to time. The undrenched pen came off worst, but some of the others, notably those on which very expensive drenches were used, were little better, The committee did not make Any award
