LitUTEXAVT F. L. Olives, late of the Thetis, is now on his way to Australia to join H.M. s. Wallaroo. Dr. Anderson, of H.M. s. VI allaroo, which arrived from Samoa last night, visited Auckland about 14 years ago as surgeon of the ship Northumberland. Air. Justice Foster, of New South Wales, who has been on a New Zealand tour, accompanied by Mrs. Foster, left for Sydney by the Manapouri yesterday. The Rev. Brother Joseph, who has been for some years in charge of the Marist schools in Christchurch, where he had made himself deservedly popular, has been transferred to Auckland. A resolution has been passed at a meeting of politicians and others in Adelaide asking the Earl of Kintore to give on his arrival in England necessary sittings to some artist for a portrait of himself, to be placed in the Art Gallery of South Australia as a record of his services. The Governor has promised to sit for his portrait. The Hon. Thomas Byrnes, AttorneyGeneral of Queensland, is making a holiday tour through New Zealand. As a pupil of the national school of Bowen, Mr. Byrnes won a scholarship, and he completed a distinguished scholastic course by graduating at the University. His career at the bar and in politics has been very successful, aud by virtue of his position as AttorneyGeneral he is now leader of the Queensland bar. A Wellington paper says " Wellington has gained a very distinct acquisition to its musical circles in Miss Jeanne Napier Ramsay, a very charming soprano singer from Melbourne, who was married on the 31et ultimo to Mr. Alfred Ernest Donne, at present acting secretary to the Wellington Woollen Company. The wedding took place at St. Paul's, Christchurch, the Rev. Dr. Elmslie, D.D., officiating. Miss Ramgay was attended by her mother, Mrs. Ramsay, having come from Melbourne for the occasion, also by her sister, Mrs. Wakefield-Holmes, of Dunedin, a popular contralto singer well known in the South Island. The wedding presents were very numerous and pretty, and were received from various parts of Australia and New Zealand. Mr. and Mrs. Donne are at present residing at Petone. A fashionable and unusually interesting wedding took place at St. Sepulchre Church yesterday afternoon, when Professor Segar, of the Auckland University College, was married to Miss Elise Scherff, eldest daughter of Mr. F. Scherff, of Symonds-street. There was a very large party of guests, who, with the general public, well filled the church. The ceremony was performed by Archdeacon Dudley, assisted by Canon Nelson, ot St. Paul's. Immediately after the bridal party entered the church the hymn, " How Welcome was the Call," was sung, after which Archdeacon Dudley proceeded with the first portion of the marriage service at the entrance to the chancel. During the singing of the psalm the party moved up to the altar, where the concluding part was taken by Canon Nelson, with the exception of the address to the newlymarried couple, which was given by the Archdeacon. The bride, who was given away by her father, was dressed, in an exceedingly becoming costfime of white satin with the customary wreath of orange blossoms. There were four _ bridesmaids, namely, Misses Scherff (2), Miss Rich, and Miss Yaile. They wore white silk and white hats with pink roses, and each carried a beautiful bouquet. Mrs. Scherff, the bride's mother, wore a stylish dress of black silk and heliotrope. The groomsmen were : Mr. D. F. Miller (the beat man), Professor Tubbs, the Rev. C. Tisdall (of Wellington), and Mr. Percy Scherff. Mr. Vincent Rice presided at the oigan, and played a wedding march as the party left the church. The wedding presents were numerous, valuable, and beautiful.
