[BY TELEGRAPH.--OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] Thames, Wednesday, The Hon. Mr. Cad man, Minister of Mines, accompanied by bis Private Secretary (Mr. Wilson), Mr. Goidon (Inspector of Mines), and Mr, J. McGowan, M.H.8., arrived here shortly before eight o'clock this evening from Coromandd, after a short stoppage at Tapu en route, whore several matters concerning that district were brought under the Minister's notice. Ho is now' stopping at- the Pacific Hotel, and during the evening has received deputations from the Borough and County Councils on various local matters, but principally in regard to votes for the maintenance of goldfields roads, etc., besides receiving several private deputations. The hon. gentleman's intention now is to remain here till about noon to-morrow, when he and his party will leave for the up-country mining districts. Dr. McGregor, Inspector of Hospitals, arrived here lust evening, and in company with Mr. A. Bruce paid an official visit of inspection to the _ Hospital, while this morning he visited the giounds ati Tararu, recently purchased by the Charitable Aid Board for an Old Men's Home, and also inspected the building now in course of erection for that purpose. Dr. McGregor expressed himself exceedingly pleased at the state of efficiency that prevails at the Hospital, and also the uniform cleanliness that is noticeable throughout) the institution, while he also stated that fcbe removal of the Old Men's Home to Tararu was a step in the right direction, and one which could not fail to meet with general approval. The Inspector returned to Auckland by to-day's steamer. -
