Gisbobne, Wednesday. Dr. Newman, M.H.R., lasb evening ad.

dressed a large meeting on the politics of the day. He said he considered the present depressed state of affairs was largely due to over-taxation and harassing legislation. He asserted that a feeling of insecurity existed ab the present time in view of the likelihood of the Tariff Commission resulting in further Customs duties being imposed next session. He urged the formation of a national party, which would study wholly and solely the interests of the colony. Dr. Newman was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
