NARROW ESCAPE FROM DROWNING.
Miss Lucy Ellis, who with a number of ladies was bathing in the Opoturu Creek, the other day had a very narrow escape from drowning. Attempting to touch bottom whilst swimming she lost her presence of mind and sank, and was being carried away by the strong tidal current running there. Fortunately Mr. Schnackonberg's yacht was tacking up the creek, and hearing the cries Mr. Graham steered the boat close down to Miss Ellis (who was now sinking for the third time), and Mr. Schnackenbarg plunged in and succeeded in rescuing the young lady. Great credit is due to Mr. Schnackenberg for his brave conduct, and to the boat's crew for their promptitude, and for the smart way in which the boat was brought to the scene of the accident. Miss Ellis sustained no injury beyond imbibing rather too freely of the Raglan waters.—[Raglan Correspondent.]
