The Union Company's steamer Manapouri, Captain John Anderson, arrived at 11 o'clock, yesterday morning, from Melbourne, 31 Hobart, and Southern Ports. On discharge of her cargo of coal the barque Northern Chief proceeds to the Kaipara to I load timber for Melbourne. The Kauri Timber Company's brig Vision arrived at the Kaipara from Newcastle yesterday, with a cargo of coal, on discharge of which she loads timber for Sydney. Yesterday the barque Star of the East arrived at Wellington from New York, after a passage of 128 days. Captain Killam is still m command of the vessel. The Union Company's steamer Ovalau leaves for Fiji, Samoa, "Tonga, and Sydney to-morrow. On Friday the Shatr, S&vill and Albion Company's steamer Mamari will leave for Napier. The wooden tower placed upon the Cap Farewell Lighthouse in 1870 is becoming decayed, and is about to be replaced by one of iron, which Messrs. J. and A, Anderson, of Christchurch, are to supply for £828 6s. The contract time expires in seven months. A new lighting apparatus, the size of the one now in use, will be erected in the iron tower. Yesterday the brigantine Linda Weber was cleared at the Customs for Rarotonga, with a full general cargo, and will sail this morning. A steamer '.rill leave the ferry tee this afternoon for one of the favourite fishing grounds, THE ROTOMAHANA The Union Co.'s steamer Rotomahana, now engaged in the Sydney-Hobart trade, is to take up the Te Anau's running in the New Zealand-Australian trade about the end of this month. THE DUKE OF WESTMINSTER. . The steamer Duke of Westminster, which arrived at Port Chalmers from Loudon last week, has been extensively altered during her six months' detention in London. When Captain Prentice (who has succeeded Captain Cox) took command he determined to carry out the wish of the company and place the steamer in the position she formerly occupied as a passenger-carrier. To this end the whole of the saloon has been reorganised ; the staterooms are of the very best description ; there are baths, lavatories, and retiring-rooms for both ladies and gentlemen, while the ladies' boudoir and gentlemen's smoking-rooms are all that could be desired. The vessel has also been fitted with a new manganese bronze propeller-blade, giving an increased rate of speed. THE CUTTER MANA. Captain A F. Johnson, of the Northern Company's steamer Argyle, which arrived from Mercury Bay last night, reports that the cutter Mana, bound to Whakatane, with a cargo of timber, put into Mercury Bay on Thursday last for shelter from the strong easterly wind blowing along the coast. The Mana was seven days off Whakatane waiting for a chance to get in, and eventually ran for Mercury Bay. She resumed her voyage to Whakatane yesterday.
