The Northern Company's steamer Clansman arrived early yesterday morning from A Mangonui, VVhangaroa, and Russell, with :£• passengers and general cargo. She leaves for t*. the same places again at seven o'clock this evening. Yesterday morning the Northern Company's steamer Wellington arrived from , Whangarei, and leaves for the same place again to-night at eight o'clock. The Northern Company's steamer Waiotahi arrived from Opotiki and Tauranga last evening, with a cargo of maize, wool, etc. She leaves for Tauranga at 5 p.m. to-day. On Saturday evening the Northern Company's steamer Argyle arrived from Tairua, Mercury Bay, and Kuaotunu with a cargo of kauri gum, etc. She leaves for the two latter places at seven o'clock this evening. '.' The Northern Company's steamer Douglas arrived from Whangarei on Saturday with a cargo of coal. She leaves for the town wharf, Whangarei,atsp.m. to-day. On Saturday morning the new schooner Aotea arrived from her maiden trip to Gisborne and the East Coast, with a full cargo, consisting of 1000 sacks maize, 20 bales V. wool, 30 pigs, 50 fowls, and a quantity of hides and sundries. The new steamer which the New Zealand Shipping Company has ordered through Turnbnll, Martin, and Co., from the builders of the Perthshire, Buteshire, etc, is expected to reach the colony about May, and will be similar in design and tonnage to the steamers named. It is said that the directors of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company are so satisfied with the carrying capacity and general excellence of this class of boats that they intend that their new steamerof the projected construction of which we were advised by cable the other day—shall be built on a similar plan. •

THE TASMANIA. Shortly after ten o'clock last night Messrs. Huddart, Parker, and Co.'s steamer Tasmania, Captain T. McGee, arrived from Southern ports and the East Coast, with a large number of passengers, and a quantity of general cargo. Mr. Carleas, the purser, reports The Tasmania left the Bluff on December 31, Dunedin ou the 2nd iiistaut, Lyttelton on the 3rd, Wellington on the 4th, and Napier on the sth at 5 p.m.; rounded the East Cape at 5.50 a.m. on the 6th, and had Cuvier Island abeam at 5.30 p.m. the same day, and arrived at 10 p.m. yesterday. Experienced moderate weather and variable winds throughout. The Tasmania leaves tor Sydney at 4 p.m. to-day.

The Union Company's steamer Takapuna. Captain John Grant, arrived from Lyttelton, Wellington, and New Plymouth at 4 o'clock yesterday morning. Mr. George Crawlev, the purser, reports : Left Lyttelton at 630 p.m. on the 3rd instant, ami arrived at Wellington at 8.30 a.m. on the 4th. Left again the same day, at 8 p.m., arriving at Taranaki at 1 p.m. on the sth. Left Taranaki at 4 p.m. the same day, crossed the Manukau bar at 3 a.m., arriving at Onehunga wharf as above. Fine weather was experienced throughout. On Saturday afternoon the Northern Company's steamer Gairloch arrived from New Plymouth, with a large number of passengers and a quantity of general cargo. - y
