The game was even till the twenty-fifth move, but at the thirty-third the former won an exchange, and a few moves later pawn, and should win the game. Barraud opened with the queen's gambit against Hookham latter is pawn to good, but Barraud's position is preferable. Barnes and Gifford played an irregular opening. The former has the advantage. ' ..;.'.; Wellington, Sunday. At the chess tournament yesterday, Mackay won from Lelievre, Gifford from Barnes, and Hookham from Barraud. Wood resigned the remaining games owing to ill health. Mackay (Wellington) wins the championship, Cocks (Wellington) second. The third place will be decided by the game to be played on Monday between Barnes (Wellington) and Edwards (Dunedin). The delegates, were entertained last evening. ,
