THE MAIL BOAT EMPRESS RUNS ASHORE.
A CRITICAL SITUATION. Press Association.— Telegraph.—
London, January 5. The mail boat Empress ran ashore at Calais, all on board being rescued. The vessel was entering the harbour when a heavy sea smashed the paddlewheel and she became helpless. There were 140 passengers on board at the time, and for ten hours they were in peril of their lives.
