Shanghai, January 4. Severe fighting took place at Neuchang on the 22d<1 of last month, the engagement lasting for six hours. General Sung, who was in command of the Chinese forces, believing that ho had been defeated, beat a retreat. The Japanese at the same time retired to Haitcheng (the scene of the battle fought some days ago), whereupon General Sung again advanced, and reoccupied Neuchang.
Moukden is in a state of anarchy.
