Some time ago a branch of the Boys' Brigade (first founded in Glasgow) was established in this city, in connection with St. James's Church. From a communication which we have received from the Cape a colonial branch of the Church Lads' Brigade has been formed there. The establishment of the Boys' Brigade at Glasgow, in 1883, suggested to Church people that they might) advantageously adapt) the system for the basis of a new work among their own lads on distinctively Church lines. The first company of the' new organisation was started in the parish of St. Andrew's, Fulhum, in July, 1891, but the Brigade was not established on its present broad basis until the following October, when a meeting was held at the Church House, under the presidency of the Biehop of Marlborough, and a provisional committee appointed to place the new movement prominently before the public. It has been decided by the Diocesan Synod of Capetown to organis a Brigade in Cape Colony. ' The Post Office at Mataura was broken into on Christmas night, and the safe, containing a considerable sum of cash and a stock of stamps, was removed.
