ABBOTTS OPERA HOUSE.
"The Foundling" and "Jonea"were reproduced in the Opera House yesterday evening, for the last time during the present season, before a good and evidently highly-pleased audience. "A Night Off," the third of the novelties announced for presentation during the season of Messrs. Williamson and Musgrove's now comedy company, which is now rapidly drawing to a close, will be staged this evening. The remarkable career of the comedy in Mew York, where it was originally produced by Mr. Augustin Daly'a famous company, and subsequent success in London, Berlin, and Paris, is a sufficient criterion of its merits and popularity. The firm secured from Mr. Daly the acting rights, for Australia and Mew Zealand, of the comedy, and it was presented with much success both in Melbourne and Sydney by Williamson and Musgrove's company, and also by Messrs. Brough and Boucicault, to whom the piece was leased for a time. Its production in Auckland this evening should be welcomed by all lovers of genuine, pure, healthy comedy, for, unlike too many plays of this class, " A Night Off" presents the distinct merit thab all its endless merriment, misunderstandings, and embarrassments arise, develop, and culminate in the most harmless and unobjectionable manner. * The whole plot turns upon the clumsy attempts of two husbands to deceive their wives, though the head and front of their offending is nothing more than a desire to obtain "A Night Off" to witness a production of a Roman tragedy, written by ft certain staid , professor. • ; -
