The Union Company's steamer Rotomahana, Captain George Allman, arrived from Sydney at 6.25 a.m. yesterday. Mr. A. Salveaen, the purser, to whom we are indebted for oar files, reports that the steamer lefo Sydney at 5 p.m. on the 25th instant, clearing Port Jackson Heads at 6 p.m. The Three Kings were abeam at 11.30 a.m. on the 29th, and the North Cape rounded at 3.30 p.m. the same day. Rotoraahana leaves for Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin at four o'clock this afternoon. tfIaPSJ Yesterday morning the Union Company's steamer Waihora, Captain R. Neville, arrived from Southern Ports, via the East Coast. Mr. H. Seigel, the pursur, to whom we are indebted for our files, reports :—The Waihora left Dunedin on the 25th inst. at 1 p.m., and called at Lyttelton, Wellington, Napier, and Gisborue, leaving the latter port on the 29th at 9.30 a.m,, and arrived at Auckland at 11.30 a.m. yesterday. Experienced fine weather until leaving Wellington, when a fresh northerly wind was met with, which lasted until arrival. The Waihora leaves tor Sydnoy at 5 p.m. to-dav. The Northern Company's steamer Wellington arrived from Whangarei early yesterday morning, and left for the same place again last night. Last night the Northern Company's steamer Argyle arrived from Mercury Bay and Kuaotunu, and left at midnight for the Great Barrier. The barquentine Adelaide was towed up from the 1 names yesterday, whereshe has just completed discharging a cargo of coal from Newcastle, and will go into the Auckland Dock for cleaning and painting. She will then go to the Thames to load timber at Bagnall's mill, Turua, for Sydney. To-night the Union Company's steamer Australia leaves for the East Coast, Napier, and Wellington, calling in at Cabbage Bay to shin a quantity of timber. The barquentine Rio, for Melbourne, and schooner Sarah Pile, for Melbourne, are both detained in harbour owing to the contrary wind. On the 25th instant the barque Natal Queen left Sydney for Newcastle, to load coal for this port. The schooner Gisborne arrived at Wellington yesterday, from Mercury Bay, with a cargo of timber. Yesterday the brigantine Huia arrived at the K-aipara, from Newcastle, with a cargo of coal. The schooner Clansman was to sail from the Bluff for Lyttelton on Monday with a cargo of red pine timber, and will probably load up with grain for this port on discharge. On the 24th instant the Union Company's steamer Upolu arrived at Sydney from Samoa and Tonga, and was to leave on the 25th for the same ports and Fiji. Too Union Company's steamer Taupo was to leave Sydney for Fiji on the 25th instant. H.M.s. Katoomba arrived at Melbourne from Adelaide on the 24th instant. The barque Kathleen Hilda, which arrived at Sydney from this port on the 24th instant, was to proceed to Port Kembla to load coal for Auckland.

The yacht White Squall was at Nukualofa on the 15th instant. She is to trade among the Islands for the present. H.M.s. Curacoa and the German cruiser Bussard were both at Apia when the Upolu left for Sydney.

THE NEW SCHOONER AOTEA. Yesterday afternoon the schooner Aotea which has been built to the order of Captain JohnH. Skinner for the East Coast trade, by Messrs. Lane and Brown, of Whangaroa, arrived in harbour, and anchored below the Railway Wharf. The schooner has a very handsome appearance, and is a credit to the owner, builders, and all concerned. She has been _ constructed of the best materials, and is fitted throughout with everything of the best class, and is rigged as a fore ana after. On deck there is a very roomy house in which is situated the quarters of the captain and officers, and accommodation for about six passengers, the cabins all having a very neat appearance. The Aotea is built on similar lines to the schooner Awanui, but is considerably larger, being expected to measure over 100 tons. She is fitted Tvith auxiliary screw, the motive power being obtained by a Priestman's oil engine of 17 horse power, and is capable of driving the vessel at a speed of about four knots on a small consumption of fuel, the ordinary kerosene oil beiDf; used. This power will be used for working the various coast ports in calm weather, and will also be utilised for the loading and discharging of cargo, and for hoisting the anchor. The schooner left Whangaroa at 11.30 a.m. on Monday with a cargo of railway sleepers and timber, and made very good time along the coast, but met with a calm off TutuUaka on Monday night, which dolayed her somewhat. Ou discharge of her cargo at the Railway Wharf the Aotea will load up for the East Coast and Gisborne, and is expected to sail on her first trip in about ten days' time, Captain Skinner going as master.

NEW OFFICERS FOR THE AUSTRALIAN SQUADRON. The steamer Port Hunter, which was due at Sydney yesterday from London, has on board the following officers for the Australian fleet:—For H. M.s. Rapid: Lieutenant S. de W. Satow, Staff-surgeon William Craig, Paymaster H. de C. Ward, and Gunner William Bonstow. For H.M.s. Lizard : Surgeon H. W. Finlayson, and Engineer J. M. Simpson. For H.M.a. Dart: Engineer Sept. Ham. For H.M.s. Goldfinch : Engineer F. E. Jacobs. For H.M.s. Orlando: Assistant-engineer J. Murphy. The Port Hunter also brings six chief petty officers and 143 seamen of the Royal navy; also 23 men of the Royal Marines.
