In reply to a correspondent;, " Lucie," in reference to the use of sweet oil as a remedy for American blight, the Agricultural Economist has the following :—Sweet oil and greasy oils of any sort are safe and sure destruction to American blight. The oil will fix in or smother all the perfect insects it touches, but as the germs sometimes emerge afterwards it is well to repeat the dressing. Common whale oil is equally effective but less cleanly. If " Lucie 1 ' will touch every filmy atom of American blight, or the gouty-like humps where it mostly congregates, with sweet oil, brushing it well in with a common paint brush, she will soon make an end of the blight. Mineral oils will also kill the blight, but the latter are apt at times to injure the bark or wood of the trees.
