VICTORIAN TRAINING AND BETTING
NOTES.
Pres3 Association.—Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.
Melbourne, October 0. The work at Flemington this morning was uninteresting. Patron, however, pat in a good gallop over the mile in lm. 525. Carnage has arrived at headquarters, and will compete in the Hunt Club races to-rnorrow. There are also a number of other Cup horses engaged. The New South Wales contingent, consisting of Paris, Atlas, Brockleigh, Isaac, Nobleman, Loyalty, Response, Bob Raj', Cravat, Miss Nora, Novelette, Lady Trenton, and /Eolus, are en route for Melbourne. Port Admiral, who arrived yesterday, looks exceedingly bright and muscular, and his trainer (Richard Griffiths) is satisfied that he will run well in the Caulfield Cup. Seaman has been scratched for the Melbourne Cup. The betting has been stagnant during today, awaiting to-morrow's developments, and the arrival of the New South Wales contingent. Straight Fire is quietly hardening up for the Caulrield Cup, and promises to see a much shorter price. 100's to 5 are not now procurable. After a fearfully sultry day, rains threatens to interfere with to-morrow's racing.
