Phillips, arrived at ten o'clock yesterday morning from Southern and East Coast ports. Mr. James A. Tubby, the purser, to whom we are indebted for our files, reports that the steamer left Dunedin at 6 p.m. on the 19th instant, and arrived at Lyttelton at 9 a.m. on the 20th. Left again at 6 p.m the same date, and arrived at Wellington at 9 a.m. on the 2lst. Left again at p.m., and called at Napier on the 22nd and Gisborne on the 23rd, leaving the latter port at 10 a.m. and arrived as above. Experienced fine weather throughout the trip. The lalune leaves for Sydney this evening. Last night the Northern Company's steamer Wellington arrived from Whangarei with passengers and general cargo. She leaves again for the same place at eight Vclock to-night. The steamer Mgunguru yesterday transhipped her cargo of coal into the barque Northern Chief for the Kaipara, and left in the evening for Ngunguru. At soon as the wind is favourable the barque Northern Chief will sail for the Kaipara to load timber for Sydney. The t Union Company's steamer Southern Cross is due to-day from Wellington and the East Coast, and leaves for the same ports tomorrow evening. This will be the last trip of the steamer in the pi oaent trade, she having been chartered by Meatus. Levin and Co., of Wellington, to take the place of the wrecked steamer Kiwi. The Dingadee takes up the trade between this port and Wellington. The new schooner Huia left the Kaipara for Sydney yesterday. | On Sunday the schooner Queen arrived at Hokianga from this port. The schooner Annie Hill, which left Lyttelton for this port last week, has the following cargo : 1200 sacks wheat, 225 sacks oats, and 110 sacks potatoes. The schooner Minnie Hare is now on her way from Fiji to Sydney to be docked for repairs. The German warship Mowe is expected at Sydney shortly from Zanzibar. The Wesleyan mission has purchased the schooner Medea, at present in West Australia, for island work connected with their mission. The Medea is a smart little schooner of 124 tons, and was built in 1880. Captain Russell has left to bring the schooner to Sydney. THE UNION COMPANY'S WEEKLY SERVICE. The weekly service between Auckland and Sydney will commence with the s.s. Talune leaving to-day. Until October 24 the day of sailing from Auckland will be Tuesday, on and after that date the steamers will leave on Wednesdays. The arrivals from Sydney will, after the end of October, be on Mondays, and departures for the South on Tuesdays. The weekly service with Melbourne will not be started until about the beginning of November. THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL. The Union Company are in receipt of a cable message stating that the Mariposa, with the English and American mails, left San Francisco for Honolulu, Apia, and Auckland on Thursday last, at 4 p.m. (contract date). The steamer is due on October 11. THE RUAHINE. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Ruahine left Plymouth on Saturday last for Wellington, Port Chalmers, and Lyttelton, with 187 passengers and 2500 tons of cargo, THE TONGARIRO. The Orlando was only a little over three days in making the passage from Sydney to Noumea. The Katoomba is at present at Fremantle (Western Australia). Word was received by the naval authorities at Sydney that the vessel met with a terrific gale on her passage from Albany, during which she was nove-to for nineteen hours. The Katoomba is expected to remain some time in West Australian waters. The Royalist, Karrakatta, and Penguin are on the Queensland coast. The Goldfinch is in dock at Melbourne.
