ECCLESIASTICAL.
The anniversary services of Sb. John's Wesleyan Sunday-school, Ponsonby, were held yesterday. In the morning the Rev. A. Peters preached, in the afternoon the Rev. R. Feguson, and in the evening the Rev. C. H. Laws. The church was crowded at eaoh service, numbers being unable to gain admittance. The church was very prettily decorated. Appropriate hymns were rendered by the school children, and by special request they are to be repeated on Sunday nexb. The soiree and public meeting takes place to-morrow evening, when addresses will be given by the Revs. A. H. Collins, D. McNicoll, and C. H. Laws. The first of a series of Sunday evening addresses by the Rov. E. C. Leal was given at the Oddfellows' Hall, Cook-street, last evening, before a large audience. The subject under consideration was The Elijah Ministry in the Last Time." The speaker dealt with his theme in an able manner, and was attentively listened to by all present. At St. Benedict's yesterday, Farmer's Mass in B flat was well sung by the choir. Herr Zimmermann ably assisted the organ accompaniment played by Miss A. McIlhone, and the soloists were Misses Lorrigan, O'Neill, Messrs. Casier and Parish. At the offertory a trio for male voices was well rendered. The Very Rev. Father Downey celebrated the mans, and the Rev. Dr. Egan preached on " Truthfulness." At vespers the Very Rev. Father Downey preached. The choir rendered several selections of good music, and Mr. Caaier sang an " O Salubaris," by Pere De Doss, very effectively. There will be a series of special services this week in the various city and suburban churches, in connection with the Congregational Union of Mew Zealand. To-night there will be a Young People's Conference in Beresford-street, when an address will be delivered by the Rev. F. Warner, on "Fitness for Service by Mr. Tudehope, on " Spheres of Service Within the Church ;" and by Mr. Thompson, on " Spheres of Service Outside the Church." At the Y.M.C.A. Evangelistic Service in the City Hall, Mr.Thomas Buddie presiding, an earnest and impressive address was given by the Rev. F. G.
