CEOWN LANDS BOARD.

The adjourned meeting of the Crown Lands Board took place yesterday. Present :— Messrs. Mueller (Crown Lands Commissioner), D. Luudon, and L. J. Bagnall. Summary of Lands Disposed From 18th August to 15tli September Occupation with right bf purchase, 2726 acres ; lease in perpetuity, 1470 acres: for cash, 1103 acres: total, 35 selectors of 5299 acres.

Native .Lands Purchased. General wrote stating that Te Kumi, No. 1 Block, of 26,000 acres, has beeu purchased, and is now open for sale. It was resolved not to throw open for selection any of this laud until reported upon by Mr. Wheeler, and until some of the land between the block and the sea coast has beeu acquired by the Government.

Timber Floatage Licenses.—from Howe Brothers, for a timber floatage license for the Takori river. Resolved to grant the timber license on receipt of plan showing positions of proposed dams, with a bond for £500. From the Kauri Timber Company, for a timber floatage license for the Pungapunga river and its tributaries. Mr. Earle objected on behalf of the natives and himself ; he objected to the plan as it did not show the dams properly. From E. R. Cardno, for a renewal of his timber floatage licence over Mangatnuku and other river. Application should have been made before the 15th of July, whereas it was uot made till the 4th of September. Resolved that applicant be informed that renewal cannot be granted, and that timber floating must be stopped until he has obtained a new timber floatage license under the Act of 1884. "Thirds." for the expenditure of " thirds" were received from the following local bodies:—Waipipi, Omaha, Waiuku, Matakohe, Maunu and Whareora Road Boards, and Whangarei County Council: Resolved, to approve of expenditure. Deferred Payment Selectors.—The Sur-veyor-General wrote in reference to deferred payment selectors, who have failed to pay capitalised amounts < within time given: Resolved that, pending legislation on the subjectj the Receiver of Revenue be instructed to continue to accept payment of balance of instalments due; also, that interest be charged against those deferred payment selectors who are six months or more in arrears with the balance of payment. Kauri Timber at Boat Harbour. — ranger reported on the kauri timber at Boat Harbour, parish of Hahei. One hundred and fifty trees had been branded and handed over to the Kauri Timber Company by previous airangeinent. The company wished to take the 80 trees in excess of those they were entitled to at a valuation. There are about 975,000 feet of kauri timber, including the 80 trees (280,000 feet) to be disposed of. Resolved that the lower 150 trees in the main creek be allotted to the Kauri Timber Company,and that the remaining kauri (about 975,000 feet) be submitted to auction, at au upset price of £365 (i.e., 9d per 100 feet), timber to be removed within two years. Land Reserves.— was proposed to vest the gazetted landing reserve, lot 22, Port Albert, in the Rodney County Council. All the landing reserves had been vested in the county, this one contained 1 rood 23 perches. Resolved that the reserve be vested"ln the Rodney County Council. Correspondence.The Surveyor-General wrote that it is unusual to vest public reserves in trustees who are not incorporated, and that it would be better to vest the Hukerenui Public Hall site in the local body —County Council or Road Board. Resolved to recommend that Government vest the reserve in the Bay of Islands County Council. From same, stating that ha is not aware of anything in the Act preventing lots of timber being taken up on application, if not sold by auction : Received. From same, stating that Mr. Houston, M.H.R., is urging the letting of runs in Mangonui County at a rental of £1 per thousand acres, without improvement conditions, but gumdiggiug to' be allowed : Resolved to inform the Government that in the Board's opinion the provisions contained in sections 116 and 214 of the Act might meet the present requirements with the pastoral and gum lands within the Auckland districts. The Board thought it inadvisable to lock up these lands for twenty - one years on the conditions proposed by Mr. Houston. Report from Mr. Halyard ou section 14, Te Kuri. Lands round section were gum-bear-ing, but the section in question contained no gum of market value : Resolved that section 14 be thrown open for selection under part 111. of the Act, at 10s per acre. From R. Thompson, asking if section 54, parish of Whangarei, was a reserve, as owner of lot 55 wished to lease or purchase. It had been set apart as au education reserve endowment, 33£ acres, but never gazetted : Resolved that section 54 be (gazetted as an education endowment reserve. From Pirongia Association, who do not want the land they applied for in Raglan County to be thrown open for selection. Proposed to vest in Whangstrei County, after gazetting,' section 93, parish of Hikurangi, as a quarry reserve: Resolved that section 93 be reserved for quarry purposes, and vested in the Whangarei County Council. Applications.—From Surveyor - General forwarding letter from gumdiggers meaning to take up land near the Kaikino river, and proposing that it be opened up under section 115 of the Act: It was resolved by the Board to cut it up into 20 to 25 acre sections, the lands referred to for occupation by gumdiggers, frontages toßangaunu Bay to be not less than 10 chains. From W. Milne to take up section 484, Whangamarino, on lease in perpetuity, and the Board were requested to accept surrender of the section from W. Milne, senr. : Resolved that lease be declared forfeited, and that application of Wm. Milne, junr. be approved of. From George Yearling to take up certain land adjoining section 7 of Block XV, Hukerenui, which he holds on perpetual lease : Resolved to approve of application, price £i per acre. Rangers' Reports.—Joseph Maiyon applied for Crown grant for his deferred payment section No. 6, Block 11., Te Puke parish: Approved. T. N. Hammond applied to transfer his section 107, parish of Whangape, to himself and two brothers, J. H. and E. H. Hammond : Approved, on payment of transfer fee. Robert Hastie, for Crown grant for his cash purchase sections, 135 to 138, parish of Kawakawa : Approved. W. H. Sykes applied to exchange the tenure of his perpetual lease sections 100, 103, 104, and 160, parish of Wairau, to lease in perpetuity : Exchange approved, on payment of rates. R. S. Ross, for Crown grant for his cash purchase section, No. 134, parish of Kaiwaka : Approved. T. S. Carmichael applied to transfer his perpetual lease sections 18, 19, and 20, Block 11., Tangihua survey district, to P. Morgan: Approved, on payment of arrears. T. Ramsbottom applied to transfer his perpetual lease to W. Ramsbottom : Ap proved, on payment of arrears. John Macdonald applied to complete purchase of his perpetual lease: Approved. Mi G. Wills and J. W. Thomson, for Crown grant homestead selection 168, parish of Tauhoa : Approved. W. A. G. Harrison, for Crown grant homestead selection, 10, Block 11., parish of Okaihau: Approved. C. A. Falkuer, for Crown grant of his homestead selection, No. 17, Block XI., parish of Ruapekapeka : Approved, Charles Brand, to transfer his " perpetual lease section No. 13, Block X., Mangamuka, to Mary Danaher: Approved, on payment of arrears and fees. Wm. Walker, for Crown grant to issue for his deferred payment section 153, parish of Onewhero : Approved of, on payment of arrears and tees. Joe Warbrick applied for extension of time to pay his arrears of rent on ' his perpetual lease, sections 45, 46, 47, and 50, parish of Matata : Consideration adjourned to next meeting Proposed to cancel the deferred payment license of R. Maer, as he had never signed the license. Resolved to forfeit the holding and declare the land open again under part 11. of the present Act. Alfred Peters applied to transfer his purchase, section 3, Block 1., Whangape, to Mrs. E. Harris : Approved on payment of arrears. Proposed to cancel lease in perpetual lease, section 44, Block 1., Waoku, Henry Leaf, for non-signature of lease : Resolved to cancel the lease, and declare the land again open for selection. W. McDavitt tor a copy of his perpetual lease of sections 4 and 6, Block 1., Kaihu. He wished to exchange his tenure to lease in perpetuity : Resolved to issue copy of lease and approve of exchange, to lease in perpetuity, provided the ranger's report on improvements is satisfactory. W. L. Mardon applied to surrender perpetual lease, sections 31, 32, and 33, Block 1., Waotu survey district: Surrender accepted. Henry Richmond applied to transfer his perpetual lease, sections 37. 47, 48, 49, and 142, parish of Karamu, to W. Wilson. Approved on payment of fees. Joseph Clayton applied to exchange tenure of his village homestead special settlement, section 239, parish of Komokorau, to lease in perpetuity : Approved. Frank Cain applied to surrender village homestead selection, 26, Block IX., Waoku : Surrender accepted as from 28th May last. H. D. Marr desired to surrender his section, Block VII. Awakino North: Approved. J. C. Olive desired to surrender his village settlement, section Wo. 11, Block X., Mangamuku: Surrender accepted. land to be thrown open for selection. Robert Sinclair applied for Crown grant for cash purchase section, lot 147, section 2, parish of Opaheke; Approved. The ranger reported on other sections visited ; by him.
