POLLARD'S LILIPUTIAN OPERA COMPANY.
It was apparent to all who saw the burlesque of " Ali Baba" that the members j of Pollard's Juvenile Opera Company had | vastly improved since their last visit to ' Auckland. But marked as was the advance evinced, it was very much more so last evenine, when "Erminie" was produced. The opera, which jusb suited the young artists, was put on and played in a way that did infinite credit to all concerned. The comic element lay principally with Master Harry Quealy, who as Cadean, the timorous thief, kept the house in roars. His dancing allowed of nothing bub encores. He did nob overdo his part, but played really good comedy to Master Alt. Stephens, the companion thief. Master E. Nable was the Marquis, and Master E. Level Engel, the latter singing exceedingly well. Miss Marion Mitchell was a musical Erminie, and with Miss Lily Stephens as Cerise, made quite a pretty picture. Miss Nellie Wilson was in good voice for the part of the Captain, and was deservedly encored. Miss Maud Beatty played well as the Chevelier de Brabazon, and Miss Sissy Sanford was a charming little Javotte. All the other parts were well tilled, the music of the opera being exceedingly well rendered. The dressing, too, was a most noticeable feature; not the slightest fault could be found with it. Altogether the production was a pronounced success. " Erminie" wili be repeated this evening for the last time this season.
