The Howick and Pakuranga Band of Hope held their monthly meeting in the Pakuranga Hall on September 5. Considering the very rough weather, there was a large gathering, and the following programme was well appreciated :—Hymn (Hoyle's), No. 53; prayer, by the Chairman, Mr. Green ; pianoforte solo, "The Maiden's Prayer," Miss Britta Mattson ; song, "The Little Empty Cradle," Miss Alice Roberts; reading from "Christmas Carol," Mr. Green; song, "The Naughty Little Rabbit," Master Alex Thompson, recitation, "The Wreck," Mr. G. Elliott, Aratapu ; address, Mr. French, Karangahape Road ; pianoforte solo, " Tain o' Shanter," Miss French, Karangahape Road; recitation, " Women's Rights," Mr. Hammond ; action song, "The Boatman," Band of Hope childdren ; recitation, " The Silver-plated Teapot," Master David Bell; piano duet, " Good Luck Gallop," Misses M. and B. Lindsay; recitation, "Shadows on the Blind," Miss B. Thompson; hymn No. 124. A vote of thanks to Mr. and Miss French and Mr. Elliott, for their assistance in the programme, was proposed by Mr. Green and seconded by Mr. White, after which the meeting closed with the benediction. The following office-bearers were then elected for the ensuing year:— President, Rev. D. ,T. Steele, Otara; vicepresident, Mr. C. G. Hill, Ellerslie ; superintendents, Mr. T. R. Bell; collectors, Mr. Green and Mr. W. D. Hattaway : purveying committee, Mrs. Barwood, 1 Misses E. King and B. Mattson; auditor of accounts, Mr. G. Bell; management of piano, Mr. Green and Mr. G.
