AUCKLAND. . MESSRS. A. BUCKLAND AND SONS' WEEKLY REPORT. At the -Haymarket during the past week, fodder has obtained higher values, and will probably do so until the crops are sown. Meadow hay has ranged in price from 3s to 4s 3d; oaten sheaves, 2s 9d to 3s 3d cwt ; straw, 15s to £1 Is load ; oats, Is 8d to 2s 3d ; maize, 2s to 2s 2d ; wheat, 3s lOd bushel; pressed hay, £4 ss ; bran, £2 10s; bonedust, £5 103 ; table potatoes, £2 10s ; seed potatoes, £3 ; chaff, £2 15s to £3 10s ton. On Friday, horse stook in moderate supply ; kept their values. Draught stock of medium
strength ranged from £13 to £17 each. On Tuesday a short supply of hides and skins sold freely. Dry skins brought from Is 2d to 2s 9d; fresh skins, 2s lOd to 4s Id each ; dead wool, 55d lb; oxhides, 2Jd to 4d ; cowhides, lid to ljd ; calfskins, 2|d to 2|d lb ; tallow, 18s cwt. At the Cattle Fair held on Wednesday, the stock brought forward were E'enerally well-bred and in condition. Prices for wellbred cattle were lower than last year, from 10s to £1 ; aged and coarse cattle almost unsaleable. . f At Ilemuera on Thursday dairy cows in ■ limited number were at late values. Prices for those sold were from £5 5s to £6 103 each. The few store cattle yarded were without alteration in price. Calves, in full numbers, were required, and sold freely at late values. Fat cattle in full supply, 220 yarded, were steady at last week's quotations, from £1 Is to £1 3s the 1001b, and were , higher in price as the sale proceeded; prices ' for steers were mostly from £7 15s to £9 10s, but several pens were from £11 to £12 15s each ; cows brought as high values as steers, prices ranging from £5 10s to £7 15s each. Sheep in full number; 1100 yarded, mostly wethers, from middling to choice quality, brought from lis to £1: hoggetts, 8s 6d to lis 3d ; ewes, lis to 14s 3d each. Piga in better supply than usual, 100 sold satisfactorily; weaners from 6s to 12s ; porkers, 18s to £115s; heavy pigs up to £2 18s each. ~? MESSRS. HUNTER AND NOLAN'S REPORT. Grain, horse feed, seeds, etc. : The quantities brought forward has been ample for the requirements of a steady demand. We quote: Oats, Is 8d to 2s ; seed oats, 2s 4d to 2s 6d bushel maize on wharf, Is 9d to 2s ; ex store, 2s Id ; bran, £2 15s ton ; chaff, £2 10s to £3 ss. Horses : The number brought forward has been limited, and the demand slack. Very few strangers were submitted by auction at the Dui ham Yards on Friday, and bidding was languid. We quote : Hacks, from £3 10s to £9 5s ; light harness horses, £4 15s to £10 10s; medium draught, £7 los to £12 5s ; heavy draught, £12 to £19 10s. Wool, hides, skins, tallow, bones: _ A limited catalogue met a brisk demand. Prices for hides were slightly in favour of the vendor, and skins of the purchaser. We quote : Hides, medium to stout, 2sd to 4d lb ; steer and cow, lid to 2d calfskins, 2Jd lb ; bones, £3 ton; tallow, 15s to 17s tid cwt; sheepskins, Is 9d to 3s 6d each. Cattle: Stock has been more plentiful, and a steady demand has prevailed for all descriptions. The Newmarket Yards were fairly supplied — the only shortage being in the store pens, the Northern cattle advertised being held back for the fair to be held on the 24th of September. We quote : Dairy cows, from £3 to £7, dry cows £2 5s to £3 lis 6d, calves £1 to £1 12s Gd, yearlings £115s to £1 18s 6d, I grown steers £4 to £6 2s 6d. The butchers'
pens were fairly filled, and some of prime quality were keenly competed for, prices ranging from £7 to £11 12s, 6d ; ox, beef, from £1 Is to £1 3s per 1001b; cow, £1; veal calves in demand up to £1 10s each. Some averages of fat steers were : £11 5s lid, £11 4s, £11 Is 3d, £9 5s 4d, £9 Is 2d, £8 17s6d, £8 13s 9d, £8 Ms 2d, £8 10s, £7 18s 6d ; cows, £6 15s, £6 12s (id, £6 ss, £5 12s fid, £5. Sheep were penned at ]Nowmarket in moderate numbers. Although the top prices readied were lower than the previous week, the decline in value was scarcely perceptible, not exceeding 6d per head in any pen. Wethers ranged from 12s to 17s 9d each ; ewes, 10s 6d to 15s. Pigs: Very few yarded, and small animals. MESSRS. O. W. JBINNEY AND SON'S REPORT. On Tuesday we cleared a large number of hides, sheepskins, etc. Hides : The catalogue consisted mostly of light and medium. Prime ox very scarce. We quote, sjd to 6d ; heavy stout, 4d to 4Jd ; medium 3d to 3Jd ; light, sftd to '2sd ; cow, best, 2d to2Jd; wet, Ifd: calf, 2d to 3£d; stags, Id to ljd; damaged nominal. Sheepskins : Country dry sell equal to 4d per lb for clean, sound pelted; torn and damaged, 2d to 3d per lb; salted, from 2s fid to 3s fid each ; local green, 3s to 4s each for medium. Tallow, bones, and horns: No change to report. Per New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Auckland Wool Storks, August 22. On Tuesday, the 21st instant, we held our weekly hide and skin sales, and again submitted a large catalogue, which was quitted under fair competition. Hides were on a par with late values, but skins were a shade easier. Quotations are : — Hides : Prime stout ox, 5d to s£d per lb ; heavy ditto, 4d to 4|d ; light and medium, 2hd to 3.? d: cow, l£d to 2d ; kip, lAd to 2d. Sheepskins, 4d per lb. MANAIA AND KAPONGA. Messrs. Budge and Goods Report.—We held an unreserved clearing sale for Mr. W. Greig on the Rowan Road, on the 9th, when we quote : Dairy cows from £4 10s to £7 5s ; backward cows, £4; weaners, up to £1 17s. At the Kaponga fortnightly sale on the 10th there was a large entry of stock, principally dairy cows, heifers, and young stock. We quote : Dairy cows, from £4 tc £6 15s ; backward, £3 10s to £3 15s; springing heifers, £4 to £5 5s ; 2-year-old heifers, £216s to £3 6d ; 12 to 18 months old heifers, £2 3s to £2 10s; yearlings, £2 to £2 3s; weaners, £1 10s to £1 19s ; 18 months to 2 year-old steers, £3 6s ; small calves, 14s fid; sheep, old ewes, 4s sd. At Mr. F. W. Richmond's unreserved clearing sale on the Eltham Road all the eleven cows being in poor condition brought very low prices. Calves, £1 7s; sows, up to £4 4s. At Mr. Hicks' sale, Manaia Road, on the 13th, as the cows were really first' class, bidding was keen. We quote : Dairy cows, £7 7s 6d to £10 ; store cows, £2 12s 6d to £3 10s; quiet heifers, £3 7s Gd to ££ 12s fid: 24-year-old steers, £4 ss; weaners, £1 10s to £1 1.7s fid; bull, £3. The dairy cows averaged £8 4s. At our fortnightly Manaia sale there was a good muster oi stock, and all with the exception of a few changing hands before leaving the yards. We quote: 3-year bullocks, £4 4s fid to £4 15s fid; 24-year-old steers, £4 to £4 ss; 18months to 2-year-old steers, £3 to £3 10s; 18-months steers, £2 15s to £3; yearlings £2 4s: store cows, £3 to £3 ss; 2-year-old heifers, £2 103 ; cows, £5 7a fid : At Mr. Frethey's unreserved clearing sale, or the Manaia Road, on the 16th, notwithstand ing the heavy downpour of rain, there was s very large attendance, aud bidding was particularly brisk. We qute cows from £4 15s to £9 10s ; store cows, £3 to £3 7s 6d ; cows and calves, £4 5s ; yearlings, £1 6s; sows, up to £3 Ms fid; cows and heifers, together, averaged £6 13s 6d. The Otakeho monthly sale was held on the 17th, when a fair entry of stock came forward. We quote 2-year old steers, £3 15s fid; store cows, £3 to £i 4s; dairy cows, £4 to £7 ; yearling steers, £5 5s 9d ; weaners, £116s; woolly lambs, extra good, 10s 3d.
