SERIOUS ILLNESS OF MR. CHARLES TURNER.

Owing to the serious illness of Mr. Charles Turner, a change had to be made in the programme at the Opera House last evening. It had been intended to produce " Faust" with Mrs. Turner (Miss Montague) as Marguerite, and the Opera was in rehearsal up to 3.30 in the afternoon. At that hour, however, the condition of Mr. Turner, who is lying at Oram's Hotel, suffering from congestion of the lungs, became so critical that Dr. Girdler, his medical attendant, forwarded the following letter to Mr. H. Cross, the business manager, "I regret to have to inform you that I do not consider ib possible for Mrs. Turner to leave her husband tonight, even for a short time. Mr. Montague Turner is so dangerously ill with pneumonia, that he may pass away at any moment." In consequence of this a change had to be made, and Girofle-Uirofltl was put on. The announcement of Mr. Turner's condition caused general sympathy amongst those present at the Opera House.
