A TERRIBLE TRAMP.

NAKED AND STARVING. [BY TELKCmAFH.— FBRSS ASSOCIATION.] Invekcvrgill, Friday. A TELEC7;AM from the constable at Orepuki this afternoon states that Gordon Harvey, one of the three men who left Preservation Inlet five weeks ago for Orepuki with about a fortnight's provisions, reached Treseder's survey camp, near the foot of Haurata Lake, last night quite naked. Ho stated that Evans and Kelly, his mates, wore at the mouth of the Wairaurahiri River quite exhausted and starving ; and that if not succoured immediately they could not survive the exposure. The s.s. Invercargill should have started for Preservation Inlet belore the telegram arrived, but being delayed by the low tide Sergeant McDonnell was able to catch her, and instruct Constable Burrows, who is a passenger, and Captain Sundstrom, to endeavour to rescue the men. To do so the steamer will have to wait off the coast till daylight. The river at which the men are stuck up is about 35 miles from Preservation Inlet. It is not known whether Treseder's party heve made an attempt to reach the men, who are about 14 miles from the camp. Harvey is the son of a solicitor here. Some time ago a man named Phillips essayed this journey alone, and. suffered so severely that a protracted illness followed. _«____
