At the meeting of the Piako County Conncil, held at Morrinsville on Wednesday, Mr. Gavin presented a petition, signed by 252 ratepayers and others, praying tbt Council to resoind its resolution, which* provided that, on their giving £500 towards the proposed road, the Government should guarantee to complete the work. After a long discußsidn, it was agreed, on the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. Browne, "That the prayer of the petitioners be not granted." Messrs. Chepmell, Browne, Hunt, Harrison, and Lamey voted for the motion ; s.tid Messrs. Gavin, Gage, Brown, and Hodgson against it. The decision of the Council will bo a most serious blow to the ratepayers in the TeAroha Riding.
