A REFUGE WANTED.
TO THE ItniTOß. Str,—W»> are caught, " Blessed is i<it> man that providetli for the sick and needy, the Lord will deliver him in the time of trouble." I have waited in vain for Mr. John Abbott with his able pen, or some high-toned citizen, to take up this serious question. There are many amongst us " too proud to beg, too honest to steal." Two cases in 14 days died from exposure. Why not establish in this city the same kind of refuge as in Sydney and Melbourne? When I was in Sydney, in Kent-street, Sydney, there was a Night Refuge, with supper, bed, and breakfast, with bath, for three weeks, provided you were sober and civil. Surely, Mr. Editor, the city of Auckland can afford the same. The Kent-street Night Refuge takes 100 in Mr**y night.— am, etc., R. J. FeLTOS. Shortland-street, April 24.1894.
