The death is reported of Mr. Thomas Duncan, who for half a century was chief clerk to the Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland. Mr. Duncan was not only official 'connected with the society, but he was one of its most painstaking and devoted servants, and in recognition of his long and efficient service he was unanimously granted a handsome retiring allowance when he resigned his post about a couple of years ago on acccont of advancing years. Most of the horses exported from France go cither to Belgium or Germany. In 1892 there were exported 9/2 entire horses, valuod at £99,20 ). Of geldings tha exports numbered 11,1*23, valued at £122,09'!. Of these Belgium took 5322, Germany 3220, Switzerland 1400, England 297, Italy, 279, and other countries 605. The exports of mares reached 7934, of a total value of £269,756. Of these 3514 were for Germany, 3068 for Belgium. 649 for Switzerland, 382 for England, 48 for Italy, and 273 for other countries.
