THE LATE MR. ALEX. BRODIE.
[PROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT, Thames, Monday. Sincere regret was expressed here to-day on receipt of information from Auckland announcing the death of Mr. Alex. Brodie, and as a token of respect flags were hoisted at half-mast upon the municipal buildings. Deep sympathy is felt for the widow and bereaved family in their affliction.
As notified in our obituary columns, the funeral of the late Mr. A. Brodio will leave his late residence, Grafton Road, for the Purewa Cemetery, at two o'clock this afternoon. The intention of according the deceased brother a full Masonic funeral has been abandoned at the suggestion of his relatives, although no member of the fraternity was more entitled to the honour. It will be seen, however, that Brother Anderson, Depute-Grand Master of the Scotch Constitution, invites all Masons to attend the funeral in plain mourning. The offices of the Brokers' Association, of which Mr. Brodie was a member, will be closed this afternoon, to afford members an opportunity of attending the funeral. A slight omission occurred in our notice of Brother Biodie's Masonic career in yesterday's issue. Prior to severing his connection with the military service, Mr. Brodie was a member of the Lodge United Service, then a military lodge, and was a past master of that lodge when he proceeded to the Thames and assisted Brother Beveridge in opening the Lodge Sir Walter Scott.
