VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
An inspection parade of the "A" Battery of Artillery was held at the Drill Shed last night, and there was a good muster of about 50, under the command of Captain O'Brien, Lieutenants Lipscomb© and Boaworth, Sergeant-Major Scully representing the staff. After the inspection parade was taken over by Sergeant-Major Scully, who put the company for the first time through the new infantry drill. He carefully explained the differences between the new and old drills as the instruction proceeded, and at the conclusion he congratulated the company as a whole on their being able to get through so creditably on a first drill. The men seemed to take much interest in the new formations, which possess the advantage of not being so close and rigid as those required by the former regulations, and the loose movements in the ranks appeared to be appreciated. There was no big gun drill, the whole parade being devoted to the infantry instruction.
