It is understood that the cable-repairing steamer Sherard Osborne is coming to New Zealand, for the purpose of overhauling a portion of the cable between Wakapuaka and La Perouse. DitNedin, Saturday. The Christchurch session has accepted the resignation of the Rev. A. P. Davidson as assistant and successor to the Rev. Dr. Stuarfc. St. Bathan'a Hotel, St. Bathan's, has been dostroyed by fire, lb was insured in the Manchester office for £300. It is reported that the Cromwell mine has been sold to an English syndicate for £70,000. New Plymouth, Saturday. A seam of good coal has been found at Tarata, on the banks of the Waibara River. Westvort, Saturday. The Westporb Coal Company shipped 4130 tons of coal, and the Mokohinau Company shipped 133 tons during the week. Greymouth, Saturday. The coal export for the week was 3688 tons, and the timber export 58,076 feet. Tho Reefton gold returns for the week were ;— Wealth, 1320z from 143 tons; Progress, 1720z from 160 tons.
